Totally different ball game. The battery on the EuroV is a superb LiIon that doesn't lose charge when not in use, and can be used for days before it needs recharging. I bought a spare battery with mine about 3 years ago, to keep charged as a spare on the boat - I've never used it once.
JG Technologies have the M1EuroV listed at £169 with free shipping, which - in this fast-moving world - may be one of the best prices around. Tell John I recommended him!
To late now I know, but I bought one at the show at £159 and the nice folk on the Icom stand programmed in channel 31 the Dutch marina channel... free.
I do like Icom gear,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Only thing I find annoying is that the squelch control often rotates with the volume contol, particularly if it's taken the odd wave. Have to keep pulling the knobs off with a pair of pliers and cleaning the spindle.
Anyone got any ideas how to prevent this hapenning (other than buying a bigger boat where the waves don't come over the top!)

I have an uncle Tony!
But I am, well last time I checked, Jon! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
None taken.
The M1V is great, I have one myself.
The fact that it is the standard set for HMCG, Irish Coastguard, Irish Navy, Scottish Fishery Protection, huge number of UK police forces and big chunks of the MOD helps sell it to.
With about £100 off the SRP at the mo makes it a great by.
The charger is also an intelligent one.
Switches off when battery is full (about 5 hours from flat), will not light up and charge if there is about 80% or more in the battery.
16 hour duty cycle (on the 90:5:5 ratio)
As long as you clean it and wash it regularly in fresh water then it should be trouble free.

I have one and the battery life is great.

Flush the unit after use under a running tap (fresh water).
Just running water no thumb over it making it a jet!
Strip down the control every once in a while and apply silicon greese.
Mine was like that when I got it, but after a few months I found it self-discharged when left alone for a couple of weeks, if you left the battery in the set. I take my battery out now when I'm not aboard and it stays charged.
I have a fairly early one, so the newer ones may be better, but other people have had similar problems.
as to battery - I only use mine occasionally when snug in the cockpit fishing or tender etc but I bought it at LIBS (Earls Court!) charged it once and am still waiting for the indicator to move!)
