Just bought the new ICOM IC-M71 HH VHF as it is 6 watts, waterproof etc but have an annoying fault which is: when I switch to Channel 16 either by pressing the CH 16 button or by Channel up/down buttons after about 2 minutes the radio starts scnnign through the channels.

I have even tried locking the set and it still reverts back to scanning through the channels.

Has anyone seen this problem.

Thanks Nigel

Does this radio have a reset???? Can you remove the batteries....If yes then remove them for a few minutes and then replace.

Nigel,
Read the instruction book, page 18 in my copy.
It sounds like you've got the auto scan switched on?

If you haven't got a copy down load from Icom's website...
Good luck

Thank you Mitch - spot on. Not sure how this happened but interestingly that when I spoke to ICOM Customer service they never suggested that. I had also been through the manual and missed that point.

Another reason why I use the Forum and find it so useful. And thanks for being so polite with your reply about reading the manual.

regards Nigel

I can't access the manual, as the Icom UK website is once again unobtainable. However, isn't it odd that this feature is apparently retained in memory when the set's switched off? For safety reasons, I'd have expected that Auto Scan would have to be selected each time after switching the set on.

i also have a problem with my icom IC-M71, every time i go onto channel 16 it automatically calls the coast guard, i have no idea how to stop this from happening, looked through the manual and cant seem to find out how to prevent it from happening, any ideas would be appreciated, many thanks.
