Hi,

I am halfway through a bit of rewire.
Am being a bit of a tart trying to match all breakers to existing.
All existing and new breakers are Carling.
Would like to incorporate a breaker to control the SSB , which is an Icom 802
Original plan was for a 50 amp breaker
The problem / challenge is can only get a breaker in 100 amp or 30 amp to match existing.
Will the 30 amp handle max load ?

The icom website gives 30 amps at 13.6V for the M802 so in theory the 30 amp circuit breaker will struggle at full output power. If the wire will take 100 amp why not put a 100 amp circuit breaker in with a suitable blade type fuse up by the M802?

In reality, the SSB will only pull 30 amps very rarely and then only on transient peaks. The breaker (if it’s a thermocouple type) will almost certainly not trip out on those sorts of loads. You can easily force the SSB to pull maximum current to test how close to tripping its breaker is by whistling into the microphone. Please only do this while the radio is matched into a proper impedance and preferably this should be a dummy load or you run the risk of doing expensive damage.
