First Sea Lord of Ye Medway.Admiral Oldgyte and cabin boye Mrs OG have signed up for the ICC course.
So any chance of some sage words of advice from the hordes of forumites who have no doubt done the course ?

Does this mean you intend to test the EU regs on red :)?

We did it in Spain. It was a hoot. I was good at the slow stuff, my mate who did it with me was good at the fast stuff. The paper part was a hoot. Really enjoyed the day and impossible to fail.

Yes actually, probably over August Bank Holiday.

"if you find you knew most of it already".

Highly unlikely OGs experience starts and stops with pointing the boat in the rough direction of travel and then (mostly)avoiding stuff on the way.
Will be nice to have a bit of theory, now these things called tides....something to do with the moon apparently ?

Good luck. I hope the weather is good for you. If you are going into the inland waterways you will need CEVNI endorsement ((Isn't actually endorsement but says something associated with use on inland waterways Covers use of blue boards if you are not already aware.

Old wives tale I'm afraid. Can't believe eveything you hear. You know how eveyone putting the kettle on causes a surge in electricity supply. Sinks, showers and bath water has the same effect on tides. :)

Beware - I took my ICC many years ago and popped the licence in a safe place. Low and behold when I had occasion to produce it I found that it had expired. If you don't renew it on time you have lost your qualification.

Every 5 years ?
Not that bothered about the bit of paper, more concerned there is stuff I really ought to know.

Agreed. However should you meet the same keen 'eclusier' on the Canal du Nord with an out of date ICC, usual French rules apply - a case of Bier.:)

Did it, went to France, was never asked for it........it ran out. I have the opinion its one of those useless bits of paper you have to pay for.

I took my ICC years ago, never been asked to produce it, filed it, rediscovered it last year - well out of date! Had it renewed with no trouble at all on the basis that if you've got it, you won't be asked for it! Only problem now... red diesel! :(

Why don't you do the RYA Powerboat Level 2 Certificate instead?

...possibly cos it may well involve bouncing around on a glorified li-lo with no facilities for making any ice for ones G & T and no widescreen TV to slump in front of if the weather looks a bit inclement ? :)

My new family motto - 'there's no nobility in suffering' I take decadance every time.:)
