Recent posts about ICC has me wondering about what sort of ICC the RYA sent to me back in March 2003.
On the front page is written in French and English. International Certificate for Operator of Pleasure Craft. In conformity with resolution No 40 of the Working Party on Inland Water Transport United Nations Economic Commission for Europé.
On the inside pages are, among other information, my photograph, home address, the certificate number, valid for Coastal Waters, Inland Waters, Power and Sail for Pleasure Craft not exceeding 24 metres in length. Valid until March 2008.
On the back page there is an eight language explanatory note in small print, which says. The holder of this document has successfully passed the tests necessary to demonstrate his/her competence to operate pleasure craft.
This explanatory note is the only place the word Competence is used.
In three weeks I will be leaving Sweden for the Med via the German and French canals. I have done this run twice before but the posts on YBW made me look at my documents again and I am a bit concerned because it doesn’t actually say International Certificate of Competence. I don’t join the French canal system until Canal de l’est South and it’s a long way back if I get a jobsworth at the German French border.
Do I have an ICC or what? I am wondering whether the CEVNI endorsement changed the whole certificate from ICC to ICFOOPC. Sorry for all the words. I hope I have given enough information. I tried to be complete because I am on Dial up and cannot answer questions quickly.
