ICC Greece

It is law that there must be a competent skipper and co-skipper on any yacht chartered in Greece. What is accepted as evidence of competence is what varies. Some charter companies will allow you to sign a sailing resume; others want at least one person to have a certificate. Most of the companies we deal with want one Day Skipper or ICC and will accept a declaration of competence from the second person.

The rumour here is that some companies were really lax about requiring qualifications/evidence of competence in the past and their clients caused several accidents or damaged other yachts so the port police are more demanding of qualifications from them now. Don't know if that is true or not.

By the way, Aegean Sailing School, like many RYA training centres, can carry out ICC tests for UK residents and citizens of the UK, USA, Canada (and a few other places) so if you're chartering in the Saronic area get in touch and maybe we can fix something up for you. You won't get the certificate immediately but you'd then have it for future charters. Tests are normally done over a day with a bit of practice with an instructor in the morning so you know what's expected of you, then some theory questions, then the practical test.
