Im off down the straits with Rear Admiral Kawasaki. The problem is the metal holder I bought to hold the ensign will not grip enough to the stainless steel tube. The result is a flag which turns through 360 degrees.

I am adverse to super glue, I may glue the boat to the marina pontoon, but also will without doubt put it in the wrong place initially. I have tried tape for purchase but that was equally hopeless.

Not wanting to reinvent the wheel what does everyone else do?

If you mean securing the flag staff in to the holder, I recently had the same problem. In the end I positioned it correctly and drilled a clearance hole and used a toggle pin similar to below to secure. Seems to work fine so far.

Sorry - I will try again.

The flag staff sits rather well in its holder, which is a stainless steel thing bought specifically for the job.

This stainless steel holder will not grip the hand rail enough to keep the flag upright.

Simple really. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Sorry - I will try again.

No. Simple if it's you who owns it and has seen the problem.
We didn't know that
a) it was clamped to the handrail
b) it was turning through a vertical axis and not a horizontal axis.
because we are not mind readers.

Now you have explained it, errm...... I can't really suggest a remedy. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Crikey! can,t be going afloat with a scew wiff Flag.
Blimey! something will have to be done.
Stone the Crows! whirling cloth on the Stern, flippin boat wanders around whilly nilly as it is!
Must be attended to before lock out, Steve (Docmeister) will have something to say.
Well not so much in the way of words but there will be tut tuts and casting of eyes to the Heavens.
Oh no! too much p%ss taking is afoot.
Especially as I have Neaped BRIZA on the shingle beach near Bangor.
On purpose of course, Err Hum ,Oops! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Genie,s idea sounds good for a temporary fix, to see us through the initial embarresement.
Nice to have a Genie on hand when needed!
All the tools to fix anything Nautical are on BRIZA.
So that,s the way we will be travelling tommorow.
Plus She is neaped on the shore next to "The Last of The Summer Wine" boat yard.
Where anything can be fixed, Yep, I mean anything!
Said yard will be pictured on ere in the not too distant future.
Plus Part two of a little trip I did a couple of weeks ago.
Plus let,s hope We get out tommorow, got got some bungy cords and a "Mole grip" thinghy, that gear should see us through the Lock.

Hmmm, You know how yer gets bad vibes before a trip sometimes------
I know!
I,ll hold the Ensign in place and Baffled can Go on the Helm and see to the ropes (sorry warps) and stuff and steer and stuff.
Crikey! now I,m looking forward to it.
Or backwards, depending on how He shapes! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Fair play tiss an awkward ship to steer.
Gotta take the Snapper, could be some interesting Pics on ere in a day or two. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I recognise your boat in the centre James. This is my home port and everything Kwasaki says about the wives is probably true.

When were you there?

Kawasaki, I take it Briza has found the one bit of shallow water you haven't hit before and is now aground. I presume you left it there and have now pursuaded Baffled to help you re-float her.

The big Squaddie on the right mirrors ari's theory that most boats only do a few hours a year. This one never goes any further than Abermenai anchorage. It is truly a floating caravan.

Yep, for sure I am neaped by Bangor pier!
Half intentionally this time.
Was to be an "Inspection Grounding".
Then a refloat on the following tide.
However the Elements didn,t play fair.
Next tide did not live up to it,s predictions.
During the night the wind plopped Her further up the beach.
Looking at the tideline this am, bugger Me ,She would have floated at 04.00 hours!

No lift was available in the Marina till Friday, so I had to dry out and investigate.
Got to get to the IOM soon ,TT and meeting Drestwos and all that.
Anyway the cutlass bearing and housing are the prob.
Bits ordered and on their way.
Another pat on the back for Nimbus too.
Rang the factory in Sweden Today.
More usefull info and advice was given.
Mr Sven,s English was better than mine!!!
Amazing service considering BRIZA is 23 years old.

What a nice Man He was.
After talking with Him for a while I think I had met His wife in Gothenburgh some years ago!! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Major
Spent a night there last April when completing the Advanced RYA nightime course.
The Instructor Brian Allen did have his boat moored there then a 40ft Hatteras, now in Deganwy.
