It took me all afternoon yesterday.I was bored and deciced to make a smal anchor for the dinghy with some of the scrap stainless steel I had around and at the same time practice my stick welding skills which I don't do very often.I guess it got out of hand because I ended up with a Rocna knock off that's too big for the dinghy. It weighs about 7kgs.Just for the hell of it I'm going to test its holding power on the boat.I'll tidy it up when I'm back from the boat and probably use it as a mantle piece ornament.

Looks like it will make an excellent abstract Gnomon. Just need a scale of hours plate welded to it. You could be onto a commercial winner.

Looks smarter than the welding I'm doing at the moment (I'm having a cuppa, actually). It's all upside down welds. I hate upside down welding.

My son, who is more of a YM type than PBO although a very experienced sailor might have written this as a parody of what (he says) is the typical PBO article where someone "happens to have" a few bits lying about and "happens to have" a functioning workshop available and "knocks up" something in a half day! (Oh and is also adept at the difficult art of welding stainless steel)

Do us a favour, we know you are very proud of it and didn't really just knock it up!

And to appease the moderators let me say that I have been a big fan of PBO ever since it started.

My hat off to you, upside down welding is horrible.I always mess it up.
Never take your hat off whilst upside down welding. I used both stick and MIG. On the upside, they ground down nicely :D

Your stainless welds look nice enough not to need facing-up.

Luckily mine is underneath so no-one will see it
