I think we need a Committee...

Following on from Jim's comment in the "Are we to low?" thread, I think the East Coast Group now merits a Committee. My nominations (with apologies to posters whom I haven't yet met, whose characters I am deducing from their postings) are:

Commodore - Guapa. I feel he would bring a certain curmudgeonly gravitas to the role.

Ents officer - Morgana (piratical organiser par excellence)

Bosun - Full Circle. A master fettler.

Hon Treasurer - Moodysailor (what else would a retired beancounter do?)

any more?

This is dangerously close to being an 'organisation'.

The problem with 'organisations' is that you need to 'join' to be a part of it.

That sort of does several things.

It puts off the dissolute and disaffected from even accidental contact with the 'organisation'

It puts off the shy wall flowers and the occasional people

It attracts clubalomanics wanting to impose 'anything/everything' on the 'members' to regulate it.

It becomes a bit cliquey

I prefer the completely anarchist way it occurs now. If you want to come, fine. If you want to come but dont/cant, fine. If you dont want to come, fine.

The odd occasions when we do 'organise' an event, like the Laying Down Supper, the Closed Season Gala Dinner or the Pirate Weekend, the potential losses are ours, with no comebacks. We all have the ability to do this, and long may it remain.

In view of the foregoing, I respectfully would like to not have a Bosun.

I vote in retaining flying the Forum Burgee wherever you go, and that to be the extent of the formality of our membership to this fine place.

I commend the dissolution of the putative Committee to this Place.

Point of order if you please

All comments regarding this proposal should be addressed to the chair in writing at least three working hours before said comments may be submitted /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Meeting of aforementioned nominees should take place withforth , or is it forthwith

Nah , let's stick to the unruly ways , much more fun and lots more seems to actually get accomplished /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Think of all the fun you're missing without a committee - faction fights, backstabbing, rampant egos, tantrums....

Err, let me reconsider my proposal....

Thanks John - I've never been the holder of the drinks pot without it costing me money - there always seems to be an overspend and everybody suddenly has urgent appointments or trains to catch.

A retired beancounter I may be but this is one job I can't afford!

I prefer a bit of spontaneity - nipping off to the loo at a judicious moment and coming back saying "oh, I was going to get that round but thanks, cheers". /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Did you get the committee's permission to ask for nuked chips, or are you just being a rebelious sub-member ? /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I'm with Full Circle - anarchy is the way ahead! Being involved with a sailing association I know only too well that once you get a job you can't get rid of the bugger to anyone! (Serves me right for volunteering whilst under the influence!)

I'm all for a Captain of Vice though! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
