..importing chain.

I bought 50 metres of calibrated 10mm chain in Athens (posh chandler) last week and paid €274.12.

There is a chandler offering 10mm calibrated chain up at Port Solent at £4.95/metre which is equivalent to €369.40 for 50 metres.

My experience is that across in Europe generally there is a saving of 20 - 35 percent. I have all of the winter work done in Cherbourg and the savings apply to both materials and labour. Same savings are possible in the U.S. but that is a bit far! Then again this is true for marina's, cars, cd's, clothes ... whatever really. I figure England is just very expensive.

Try http://www.griffchains.co.uk 10mm chain @£3.80/m therefore - 50m is £190. - about the same as in Athens.

The last time I bought 3/8", about three years ago, went to EYE (on the Old Felixstowe Rd. just before the Levington Marina Turn) and purchased 50 metres of calibrated chain @ £90.00 inc Mr B's bit. Not only got the calibration cert. but they matched the old chain sample for the winch....Super Company & very, very competetive. Tony W.
