Old.

The march issue of MBM has dropped onto my doormat and having a quick shuftie through, found the London Boat Show report.

I'm afraid I am finding myself rather taken with.... A Hardy....... :ambivalence: The 40DS to be precise. Yet to see a pic of the flybridge version though.

Soooo....

No tearing round with my hair on fire, in a 20 foot soapdish; listening to the howl of a brace of Allison 250 gas turbines after a lottery win, but a plod around the Med in a bleedin Hardy, probably wearing a sailors cap and blazer. Being a no smoking vessel, sadly I will have to forgo the Briar Pipe clenched in the teeth.

Gawd is there nothing to be done about approaching middle age?

Had the same feelings toward the Hardy for that price you can buy a lot of othe 5 year old boats and have some diesel money left over.

Saying that if I was to retire to the European waterways for a few years the Hardy would be high on my list

If you like the look of a Hardy, don't be ashamed. The beauty is in the boats engineering, if you look really closely it only gets better, a sign of a really well made boat.

I'm smitten with mine.

Bit past middle age but with what I've learned about med boat driving is that driving fast all the time gets boring and being in the sun for long trip fries your head. A comfortable semi D plodding along on autopilot at 9-10 knots is perfect. Beer in hand, choice of inside helm or keeping watch from the aft deck.....perfect!

exactly. out on the water is the best place to be - why get it over with as quickly as possible and sit in a hot marina

Mind you, a serious euro lottery win would see me plodding around in a Nordhavn 55. I want one of those so much it hurts.

would it cost much more to run than my 20ft binliner?

I think with that air draft I would have to go the long way round to Greece, instead of through France ect. Bet there are a few bridges not high enough. 3000 mile range at 8 knots would see a couple of top ups on route, so down the Humber, across the north sea, follow the French coast past Brest and down to the Med, then back across to the Aegean. Wonder how long such a trip would take? What an adventure!

Mind you saying to the bloke at the diesel pump "I'll take 2250 gallons please" would make my eyes water.

Dreams.....one day I will have that winning ticket.........

Anyone know someone that has done such a trip?

That's also one of my favourites

Probably wouldn't cost much different to the bayliner
