RIP
I'm not sure especially after nearly 50 years that my memory can be trusted. Maybe it was an MTB/Gunboat repair facility.
In my day there were no pontoons and on the edge of the entrance to the next creek there was an old building. In the 1800s a Barque didn't turn in time and it's bowsprit went through the window and it was stuck there, so I was told.
Certainly I recognise the layout of the area in the Google pic of course landward was totally different. The whole area is steeped in history. In the great storm of 1700 and whatever a couple of navy galleons were swept right across the island ending up almost in Havant. There is supposed to be a sunken village off Hayling and before the sea defences were built in the 1970s people found the odd gold coin on the beach after every great storm. Off Hayling there is a sunken U boat whereabouts known only to about 5 of us and an ammo barge known only to me and one other.
