That's a Plymouth Hooker - 1896 vintage. She is being restored on the Hamble. I'll being following her progress over the next few weeks.

I've also got some pictures of her being caulked if any one is interested.

She is owned by a young doctor who is using it as her floating home and doing a lot of the work herself - although all the wood work is being done by Solent Shipwrights

Lovely photos - she looks gorgeous!

What are the odds of the anchor salesmen on this forum now trying to sell the good lady a 'modern' anchor to replace 'Old Coldnose' (as Maurice Griffiths or JDS used to say) hanging on the bow.....?

I have fisherman anchors for both bower and kedge on my old [1917 ketch 'Swallow', and the other day I had a call from a very experienced sailor [and naval officer] asking if he could borrow the kedge for a planned circumnavigation of Tasmania. Even in summer, this is not a trip for the faint-hearted.
Peter.

This is the above young doctor! If anyone knows of a small, decent brass binnacle, or other such paraphenalia, would they let me know. Also looking for some more lead ballast. Any offers of help gladly received and will be paid in sailing days! She was the one in Dell quay. Oh, and I like my anchor, thankyou!

Don't know how much you're prepared to pay but have you seen This One?

Thanks. My bronze portholes are from trinity and are great, but that one's a little out of my price range! bpsc-marine were very helpful, but don't have one at the moment. They advised me to go to Mr Robinson the famous compass adjuster in Hamble village. So there I shall go.

Any views on lead ballast?

Lead Ballast!

I have never had the need to buy any lead ballast but I did find this on the internet:
http://www.lowden-metals.co.uk/lowmelting/Lead.html

Prices are on application but I don't know what that means! There is also Metal Supermarkets, Mount Pleasant Road, Southampton. 02380220999 who might be worth an enquiry.

The second is from a business card someone left at the sailing club.

I see that your fine vessel is well sheltered, but are the 3 props a side on a gravel surface OK? I have seen yachts fall over in strong winds because the extra windage of the mast, which then has loosened the props. Hate to see any damage done.

I drove through Honiton in Devon yesterday and saw a brass binnacle in the window of an antique shop in the High St, sorry I didn't get a name or number but perhaps someone local could enquire. It was at the bottom of the hill on the North side of the High St.
