Yes indeedee. Don't know where yet, may take advantage of the (predicted) good weather to get a coat of poplish on the top sides Fri/Sat and nip across to the Folly for Saturday night, then down to Yarmuff on Sunday.
We used to adopt the "stay at home - it's less hassle" method.
We now live across the road, and a field, from our boat. This means that it really is no hassle to go for a sail. So, weather permitting, that's what we shall do.
It's, of course, the last opportunity for MOBO's to have a blast on Windermere, but last weekend it was pretty quiet on the lake and there have been empty boat transporters queuing outside Windermere Aquatic to collect MOBO's so perhaps the main exodus is already underway.
It would be nice if it was good weather so that those who are leaving the lake at least get a decent weekend. I've noticed a few MOBO's travelling at lower speeds, so I don't know if they are assessing the viability of travelling more slowly. Despite the accepted knowledge on the subject it does seem that even deep vee hulls create less wake when travelling slowly, apart from that climbing-on-to-the-hump speed when they shift a lot of water. I can't imagine you would travel at that speed from choice as it uses a load of fuel and the boat is at an uncomfortable angle.
It is the end of an era, but from a more optimistic viewpoint it is the start of a new era.
Re: I am Sailing Somewhere watch the winds on Monday?
Hope to get over to France or CI on the Friday.
Weatheronline seems to indicate light S/Se winds on Friday with Sun - beware of Fog methinks - but this afternoon they have changed to indicate a bit of a blow developing from the west on Sunday/Monday 25kts etc.
However, as always it will be sailing to what the weather is expected to do, I am not into peering into radar screens for hours on end or beating to windward for long periods at this time of year even to replenish the wine stocks. Sign of old age ?
Re: I am Sailing Somewhere watch the winds on Monday?
Which location are you looking at, to get 25kts Brian? For Southampton, they are showing nothing more than 11kts from the SW - shame about the showers though!
Re: I am Sailing Somewhere watch the winds on Monday?
quite long way inland?? I know there has been a shortage of rainfall, but Southampton was still on the coast when I was there on Sunday!!
I know its not a marine weather site, and I only use it for a quick check several days out, then track the real weather on synoptics etc. Anyway, its the same site that Brian quoted, so there !!
Just a little jaunt around the Eastern Solent with our club (15 boats at last count) - Lymington, Hamble and Cowes, as a shake down for the new season.
Re: I am Sailing Somewhere watch the winds on Monday?
Hi Nick I was looking at the Weatheronline Site Sailing Wight shipping area forecast. They indicate a depression approaching on Monday with 25kts coming up the channel from the southwest, and much lighter winds on the English side of the channel. If I have dodged any fog on the Friday and managed to scuttle across, it is these winds I may be watching.
On the other hand if its foggy on the friday we may end up like others rock hopping along the Dorset coast to Weymouth.
Semms to tally with France Metro as well, but like most these sites I suspect they all use the same basic programmes.
Looking after all the small aircraft and helicopters flying around Scotland. Give me a call on 119.875mhz and recieve a cheery and friendly flight information service.
With family and pottering in the garden. As soon as the weekend's over and most people are back to work it'll be off to the boat for the first sail of he year.
