Our R drive (also known as a number 1 or pre-alpha) for my Mercury Mercruiser 2.5 petrol 4 cyl motor boat didn't take kindly to being stripped down. It was totally siezed when we bought it and we failed to remove internal components without also removing parts of the casing - good for spares only now.
Is there anyone who may have on old one hiding on a dusty corner somewhere after an upgrade? Or something similar that will fit, as I understand that the top and bottom parts of the R drive and Alpha drive are interchangeable.
There were, however, two different distances between the stern drive mounting studs of the bell housing :- ours has 5 1/16" between the stud centres but an even earlier model had 4 15/16" centres.
Any help finding a suitable replacement or hints where to look or who to speak to would be gratefully received.
