Sounds like a dreadful place to go- all that nasty sunshine and very salty water that's always blue. You'd have more fun going for a break on the east coast from what I've heard ( and you can still buy chips). People tell me the Carrybean is so rubbish I can't spell it. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

In the Caribbean the sharks can take off your toes at the waist, while in the UK they can remove the entire contents of your wallet and bank account without leaving a scratch.

In fairness, having been away from it for over 18 years, I would go back tomorrow, for work or holiday.

Its the usual story in a place which has a strong tourist brochure image, living there is a totally different experience. The cultural difference really comes to the fore in the work environment where UK management attitudes require some adjustment.

Hope you have a great time, really!

Boat is in St. Martin, so we will start there. Spend a while learning the boat and gaining confidence. I have a Day Skipper, but not to much experiance - all as crew on other peoples boats, and My Love has 1 afternoon on a 36' Moody on the Crouch. So we need to take it slow to learn the ropes. Last thing I want is for her to get scared - but on the other hand she does not want to learn on someone elses boat so I hope she is prepared for some scary moments.

Once we feel confident we will essentially do the islands around there. - Possibly Anguilla - although the cruising permit seems rather steep, St Barts, Statia and Saba if we feel confident enough (Those 2 islands are out of bounds for the charter market - maybe because they are tricky?) St kitts & St Nevis, possibly Barbuda and maybe even Antigua.

Was thinking of heading over to the BVI, but not sure at the mo. We will really just take it easy and go where we feel we are within our abilities.

I am a little worried about leaving the boat in St Martin over Hurricane season, but will bury her in a hole, and most likely take down the masts.
