You could try doing a detailed search on Yachtworld by size and age, that will give you a good idea of what marques are available from recent years, then google for the manufacturers own websites.

Kenzie - I think you need to be a bit clearer on your criteria - what do you want the boat for
what sort of distances do you anticipate sailing
do you want to make money out of the boat
how many people do you anticipate having on board
where will you keep the boat
do you want to cruise or race
performance or comfort
where do you sail
do you want to make money out of the boat
do you went to enter a vat reduction scheme etc etc....

Why?

I believe that this is a perfectly reasonable question to ask a purchaser of the boat and would be important in defining what a person would choose to buy. In what way does my post suggest that this is an important criteria and on what basis are you making this assumption? Before making statements and accusations please justify yourself.

typo? brainstorming thoughts down quickly? now back to the original post, i'm trying to help kenzie out here. What useful purpose are the others here serving?

Should I dignify that? as i said lets get back to the post topic.

Don't suppose it's worth my jumping in here to point out that your undergarments seem to be somewhat in a tiz ?
Chill out and get back to what you keep saying you want to get back to ?
Nah , thought not

Don't worry. You'll get the hang of the forums. Not everything is dealt with in a strictly serious manner, but we get there in the end, and have a bit of fun on the way.

Hello Kenzie and welcome aboard!

Before you go out and buy a boat my advice would be to spend 2 or 3 years chartering..... Try to go to as many different places with as many different companies as possible... and as many different boats as well.....

This will give you a far better idea of what works and doesnt work... for instance, do you want the mainsheet down into the cockpit, or on the coachroof? Do you want a wheel or a tiller? Can you make do with no windlass? Which boats sail well and which dont?

The choices are bewildering when you start out, and even when you have been doing it a while.....

Then, set yourself a realistic budget, starting with the cost of your mooring, operating costs on the boat, your ability for DIY, and how much you have available to buy the boat with....
as a very rough guide a 30-32 foot boat will cost you a additional 5-6k per annum on top of the cost of the boat...including moorings in a marina at around 3500-4k.

This is assuming its a reliable and newish boat with little need for major work.

So there is a lot to take into consideration, and the best way to avoid what can be VERY costly mistakes... (Believe me, been there!) is to charter quite a bit, and then spend loads of time reading magazines such as Practical Boat Owner, Yachting Monthly, and Sailing today.....

Plus of course asking stuff and listening in here.....

Many of us have spare spots available in the summer, if your a friendly type who can hold his own, then you may be able to cadge some sailing!

One very important point... Places to park your boat are becoming very difficult to get, especially on the South Coast...So if you want to keep it in a marina on the South Coast, You MUST have a berth in advance... waiting lists are often 18 months to 3 years.....

Hi - Thanks for asking.

Yes a seasoned cat sailor, and (careful what I say here) a strong advocate of cats having taken both types across oceans several times. Unless I'm doing short inshore races, I'm not too keen on getting on board a monohull these days (and I'm not just saying that because I have commercial interests in catamarans!). Mono's just so damned uncomfortable for someone who has gotten used to the comforts and speed of a Cat! OOPs... sounds like a sales pitch... and no, I don't sell cats, only help people choose, accept, deliver, manage them and derive income from them.

And just to clear the pitch on other posts, I was not approaching Kenzie with a view to creating a commercial opportunity... honestly!

Been overseas for some time so looking to connect with sailors here in the UK. That's it.
