Who was considering moving his boat to a Marina some 2-3 hours away from where he lives.
Over several weeks he has developed this strategy and convinced myself and several other interested onlookers of the wisdom of this intended move. Going so far as to have us believe that it was part of a longer term strategy to round Lands End and sail over to the Emerald Isle.

I was engaged in conversation with him briefly on Friday before he had to leave rather hurriedly to attend to pressing personal issues and it now appears that this move may no longer take place.
Now I - and the interested onlookers know my young friend rather well and were interested in his reasons for not undertaking the proposed move.

We all know that he has actually reconsidered the move as the journey will probably become tedious, he will not be able to just "nip down to the boat" and he now feels rather foolish that he has made such a big issue of it all. It is therefore amusing and at the same time sad that he has now dreamed up a story rich in the inadequacies of booking systems and the complete failure of business administrative systems to process and execute his booking.

The obvious intention of this fabrication is to throw us off the scent and generate our sympathy and indignation at this apparent inefficiency. The amusing part is that he believes we all believe him, the sad part is that he feels that he needs to fabricate this story, when we know him so well.

An elderly auld goat no named King Billy

but sumfink else keeps his boat in a afarflung half remembered wasteland where the sun rarely shines, the wind blaws aften and its aye pissin doon. He pits ra boat in the water, which if it wisnae warmed by ra gulfsream would be hemmed in by ice floes and friggin penguins, for a 3 months of the year (still a better batting average than TwisterKen though). He spends, on a guid day 5 hours getting there (before the Viagra kicks in).

Now my question is:

Why?

Och Jamesie
D'ye turn yer back oan yer hameland sae readily? Ye've lain ower lang amang they southern jessies an yer heid's gang saft an its time ye was up tae see us again. Ah wid suggest that even if ye'd got yer statistics correct an oor time oan the watter wiz as little as ye suggest - tae sail fer but a day a year in the land where the peaks meet the sky and the lochs meet the sea is reward enough

Re: mathematical problem

I beleive that the real reason is the mathematics. Your friend may well be a supporter of New Maths which involves asking the price, haggling a bit, then mentioning some other number which has alreasdy been paid, perhaps yonks ago, as tho that will be applied as dicount, and then having secured the berth, whizz off somewhere else before anyone notices. However, it would seem that some other celtish types from the west and far west of outr island group are well trained to spot the scam at the first hint and hence the whole project may have to be scrapped.

Re: Photographic proof

Wot? You mean you don't get ice floes off Melfort. Hasn't global warming and the dying gulf stream taken effect there yet?

Dunno, but Colonel Mustard is looking pretty pissed off. Has that little mutt that Boatone calls a dog been trying to shag Colonel Mustard again?

Back to the subject in hand - oops, I've just put it down, and used a few tissues to wipe off the evidence - Norway, Finland or Greenland I suspect. For some reason, don't think it is on other side of the pond, though Newfoundland springs to mind.
