The blue paint applied to my boat by the broker before I took delivery seems to attract fine hairy weed. The boat when into the water in February and was scrubbed off in mid August and I am surrounded by boats with either clean bottoms or those with a coat of slime.

I am in Haslar so I am looking for some info from those with boats in the Solent. If your boat went into the water around Feburary and does not have either slime or weed growth please tell me what antifoul you have used.

I think the clean ones may have had a surreptitious scrub.
We're just a mile or so up the harbour from you and at lift out time the only clean boats had been scrubbed recently - some of the others looked like marine ecology conservation areas.

The most effective antifouling in the Solent involves regular use of a diver or a pressure washer or a brush.
The more you pay for the coating the better it gets. I find £80 per can International Micron antifouling is noticeably better than £35 per can International Cruiser.
None of it stops greenery forever or usually more than a month or two. Some stops barnacles for longer. Sunny warm weather makes more greenery grow.
Even copper based epoxy antifoul cant cope with the Hamble (copperbot). Though it is easier to clean off the green off the copperbot without taking off the antifouling layer than with the eroding paints.
Forethought stays in for 12 months a year and has a coat of antifoul every 6-8 months with one scrub about 3-4 months inbetween. The bottom becomes noticeably green.

I used to have a friend (well he still is, actually) whose father once had a rant about soft toilet tissue because he had a hairy arse and claimed only Izal would do.

oops , soryy thought we were talking 'bout somefink else...... used the cheapest anti foul we could find, £30.00 a tin ,weed on the waterline now , wil have to scrub next few weeks, looks as good as the most expensive , ie Titan and International, £90.00/tin the weed has only appeared in the last 3 weeks , we are a cat so no problem beaching, will let you know if there is significant fouling below, just up river beyond Spider

Regards Mike

Pop over to Cowes and try the boat lift ? They do anodes but not sure if they will do antifouling too. See web page

Have you tried the new owner of the chandlery in Haslar ( Peculiar's ) ? He offers a dive & scrub service for a lot less than a lift out.

Yes he did the scrub in July, the weed was back in three weeks. Gosport Marina use Universal Micron as their standard paint but it is quite expensive.

SWMBO's cousin is a beauty therapist. She once insisted that the only way she'd do me a freebee haircut was if I allowed her to wax my ears. AAAAAAWWW.

No way would I every consider the above.
