who is off on a Comp Crew course with his SWMBO, out of Troon next week. Does anyone have a long range weather forecast for the Clyde/West coast area for next week?
I have, of course, warned him to expect the usual smartar$e comments from the Sheeps Heid and other venerated posters of that ilk.

my friend would like to extend his thanks for any assistance in advance.

Is the Pope a catholic?

Is the Pope a catholic?

Will Scotland in October be cold, wet and windy?

And I don't know how to say this without upsetting your 'friend', but he's crew. Crew are there to pull the right bit of string when told, wind winches, sit on the weather rail, feed the skipper Mars Bars on request, and buy the beer in the evenings. They don't worry about the weather, that's not their job.

Re: Is the Pope a catholic?

my friend fully appreciates you comments re the crew position, but is in fear of losing his cojones as he tried to assure his swbo that an indian Summer would definitely be on the cards for that week. Should he wear some kind of protection?

Head-to-toe Henris, lifejacket with crutchstrap and cricketer's box. Leave behind the Ambre Solaire.

Didn't you warn your friend that an Indian Summer in Scotland consists of the tail ends of Carribean Hurricanes..

Re protection I think you can buy "protection" in Glasgow

<<but he's crew>>
But he's not "competent" till the end of his week, so he's allowed to worry about all sorts of things. Maybe his wife's steel toe caps will be the most significant point.

<his wife's steel toe caps>

I think his wife, being from Louisiana, will be more familiar with a 'Coonass Pistol' than a pair of steel toe caps, hence is concern re: his cojones.
Also, he is concerned that the hoisting of a spinnaker is more likely to be replaced with 2 reefs and a storm jib.

Re: Is the Pope a catholic?

I would argue that he should still hoist his spinnaker as broaching on the Clyde is a popular pastime and he will feel "part of it" if he achieves the horizontal mast postion.

Yes indeed, rain looks favourite and nice blustery winds too.
I don't think he thought this one out too well.

I guess he shouldn't recommend that his wife watch <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.ybw.com/cgi-bin/forums/showflat.pl?Cat=&Board=ym&Number=580838&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=31&part=1#Post580878>this</A> one either.
Might ruin the surprise.<gulp>

Well if your friend is heading for Rothesay at some point, tell him (or her) that he/she should give Rebel a shout. We will probably be in the area this weekend. You'll recognise Rebel and her crew....
Two deep reefs and a rolled away genoa and Sheena looking good in her oilies, as usual - Oh and we'll probably be either sitting in the Kettledrum cafe (daytime) or the Black Bull (nightime) considering why we actually go out in such weather....
