who informs me that he will be cruising in the same area as the bold Claymore at the end of next week. He further informs me that in anticipation of the forecasted high pressure, balmy breezes, continuous sunshine, he is currently buying up the entire stock of bermuda shorts and panamas in the Lough Swilly area.
Now it was once forecast to do this a couple of years ago and apparently the management of Ardfern Yachts took the entire staff away for a fully paid weekend at Skibo Castle on the profits on sales of foul weather gear and fleeces they sold in 12 hours.
As a friend should I mention this or do we run with lightning not striking twice?

How many friends have you got? I have now upped the count to two so suspect you are now grossly exagerating!

the shellfish which youse so ruthlessly extract from the sea will be none too pleased with the removal of essential parts of their natural habitat either as they're known to use the odd bit of kelp as cheap factor 45 ......

I've heard of global warming but anyone can tell you its not reached the west coast of Scotland yet. The mans obviously mad or a complete optimist...or he's having you on.
As for Ardfern Yachts...er they're not expensive are they?

Which also begs the question, should this friend be aware of any foibles or whathaveyou involved in cruising with the bold Claymore?
I believe he has a nervous disposition, and perhaps you could put his mind at rest.

Ardfern - well you don't get to be by Royal Appointment and give stuff away with Corn Flake Packet Tops - of course its expensive - and for good reasons to do with equality of opportunity. Its bad enough sailing in heavenly waters and the finest scenery but to have it cheap as well - that would never do. I do think Ardfern are over the top though - berthed there overnight last month and it was almost a tenner, then again - they did include electricity and breakfast.

Cruising Claysie

Was this friend one you encountered when cruising with the midget?

Re: Ardfern

Not as expensive as Dunstaffnage.
Watched the England-Portugal game in the Galley of Lorne and a few locals had suddenly and vociferously remembered their close ties and undying affinity with anything Portuguese!

Go on then. Name names. How much is it costing you for this friendship? Did you find him/her (delete as required) from the Personal Column in YM?

Can other people see this friend too?

Is he (it) a person like you or me or possibly of giant Leporidae descent?

Do they talk to you? Can only you hear them?

Regards
Cameron

Re: Buying the entire stock

Not to worry, there probably won't be more than one panama hat and two pairs of shorts for sale in the whole of western scotland, so his outlay won't be very high.

In the same way, I once announced "drinks on me!" for everyone in the bar - but there were only two others present.

Listen - I know you lot don't have friends but please don't be surprised when a gentle soul like myself admits to having one.
In fact I have a lot of friends - right now many of them are students who haven't been friends with me for some time but realise the value of my friendship in terms of their academic success.
Naturally I am not influenced by any of this and whilst I am putting on a bit of weight with these rather fine belgian chocolates that have appeared on my desk, doubtless it will drop from me as butter from a hot knife as I participate fully in the exertions of my much deserved summer break. The friend of whom I originally made reference will no doubt be a counter productive influence as he is generous to a fault and without a shadow of a doubt will insist on hoovering the finest quality food and drink into me as we cruise amongst the fleshpots of the West Coast.
