The white blackout was disintegrating and about to tear. A new roller from Lewmar is £80. Finding white blackout material was not so simple. Eventually found a site that sells the white material. Here is the link. Easy to replace. All you need is some double sided tape and some time.

Where is the link?

I have Oceanair blinds, and had the failed silver backed material in all of them replaced by UK Sailmakers in Fethiye last month. They had a thin but very strong blind material in a variety of colours, which they had sourced from Germany. Its not blackout material except in dark colours, but we chose a light fawn which matches the boat curtains and it provides enough shielding from the sun. The job cost about €12 per blind, and the blinds now work better because the material is thinner than the original.

Maybe an idiot question, but you know when you pull out the old material from the blind, the roller becomes spring tensioned? How do you keep the tension while you peel/cut away the old material and fit the new?

When you put the roller back in place there is a slot on the end. So with the blind rolled away, you can put a flat screwdriver into the slot and load the spring. Hard to explain without pictures. Pretty obvious when you actually do it. I am not on the boat for another 6 months now, so cannot take pictures.
It is all quite straightforward. The hardest part is getting the frame apart. I did snap part of it by being over enthusiastic but it all still went back together ok and works.
All is all about an hour to take the frame off, get the off fabric off the roller and also the little plastic rod at the other end, cut the new fabric and re-assemble.

There are some points to watch out for if you do it yourself. Firstly you need decent sail makers double sided tape, as cheap stuff will fail. The material should be sewn around the plastic rod which fits inside the end you pull out. When you re-assemble the blinds and tension the spring the final stage is to insert the small plastic clip that stops the tension being lost. Its very easy to lose the clips when taking the blind apart, so be careful. The sail maker who did my blinds took no more than 10 minutes each, but I think he has done a lot of them!

It was very hot so the nuns in the convent decided to remove their robes and decorate naked, as a precaution they decided to lock the door.
Happily they decorated without shame when there came a knock at the door...
'Who is it ?' the mother superior enquired.
'Its the blind man' came the answer... just before she opened the door .
'Wow nice boobs sister, now where do you want these blinds ?'
