I don\'t believe it!

The warning buzzer on my Yanmar engine panel has given up. It consists of two metal discs stuck together which have now come un-stuck. How much would you expect to pay for a replacement? £10? £20 at a pinch? Would you believe £149?

So does anyone know what i can use to stick the plates back together? I have found the same arrangement in cheap car stereo speakers and ordinary glue didn't work on them either!

Re: I don\'t believe it!

hm, this is serious. For a start, the engine might well be knackered on account of wearing out the warning buzzer. Since this is sbutt rather than PBO, I would cough up the 149 quid for the correct part AND i think you should investigate getting another warning buzzer that warns you when the first warning buzzer is not working...

Re: I don\'t believe it!

Is it the actual sounder bit you need? If so I have a bag of them in my garage

They are 1.25 ish inches diameter. Brass coloured with a slightly smaller disc 'glued' on the top. The glue is the piezo electric stuff. The wires are soldered direct to the metal...

I can post you one... I need to clear out my garage before it falls down.

Rob.

Dont believe its correct. I know that Yanmar bits are reasonably expensive, but that price for a buzzer doesnt make sense. Am sure your dealer is trying it on / mistaken.

try John Scuse at Cellar marine, Porthallow near Helston. Yanmar Dealer. Honest and will certainly tell you of a cheaper alternative if that silly figure is correct. No connection.

Re: I don\'t believe it!

Sounds to me like you have been given the price for the whole mini control panel.

The large panel with rev counter as an upgrade is around £300 extra so the figures ring true. When I saw that when buying my engines I almost cried, not surprisingly I bought with the standard panels.

You now have the oppertunity to get rid of that bloody buzzer and fit something that does not wake the whole anchorage. I have always fancied a bell. But then a claxton might be fun too.....

Ah! What you need to do is connect the alarm to a laptop, then select sounds to your hearts content <g>

I've got a freeware alarm software, into which you can put any sounds you like, and have some wonderful ship klaxon and bell sounds. Can email them to you?
