I only do it solo if no other option is available. On delivery I have found that they can never make there mind up whether they want me there or not. Mostly I only do it with one other. Never tried it with a whole crew, but have thought about it a few times!! Hope this helps.

Pardon my un-solicited intrusion Madam, but it does sound as though your driver needs a stark reminder about passenger comfort along the way? /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Strangely this is where a dirty bottom is not without it's merits, although the ability to glide effortlessly into position also helps. The mouth should be placed in the right stratiegic position, and it is helpfull to suck as well as blow.

Normally go out solo if it was during the day and no one else around done deliveries to Jersey and back quit regular also did Guernsey - Alderney - Jersey - Sark - Herm - Guernsey all solo delivering ....you guessd it Soltron. Was a great trip and fun day.

Always end up going out solo if we can only get the boat out at 6am cos of the tide then go off to a quiet bay and wash the boat down and sleep in the morning sun.

I've been coast-hopping solo for years. My wife says this is because I've no friends. Unfortunate but true /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Real reason is that most, if not all, my friends do something called "working for a living". Thus they are unavailable most of the time. Well that's my story and I'm sticking to it !!

I always do one trip a year with all the electronics turned off to keep my hand in with paper, pencil log and compass navigation.

I usually moor in some delightful estuary such as the Helford or the Yealm. Being alone with the boat for a few days is really good experience

Last winter, I was frequently out alone - and enjoyed it. Mind you it is only a 29ft boat, so no big deal. The tricky thing for me is leaving and arriving at my trots mooring. Its all a matter of timing and ability to hop around the boat in a nimble fasion....err, 5' 9" and 14 stone...errr, OK then, nimble-ish.

My "next-door" neighbour is a super chap with a 41 foot ferro-cement yacht, weighing in at 13 tonnes. He can single hand that thing on and off like a pro. There's a lot that can be learned from "Concrete John" /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

As the saying goes. "Go dead slow and look like a pro. Go too quick and look like a d**k".

My first trip out at sea was solo. Lymington to Mercury, to meet up with the Pathfinder Powerboat Club.

Amazing how much planning went into that, when these days on that trip I wouldn't even look at a compass, never mind a plotter. Just about 98% of the trips I've ever made have been solo

Well done, the first time is always a bit of a worry of what can go wrong particularly on a strange boat.

The first time you get all the sails up and kill the engine is a really good feeling and you wonder why before you always wanted a crew. Then the peace and quiet even if it is bumpy never goes away!

The trick I found was what is always drummed into us: organise, be tidy, think through before you do anything, know you limits and relax DON'T PANIC!

The worst bit is always the knowing you CAN do it and working yourself up to do it! Oh yes and having to return, first time mooring can be alittle fraught, but watch wind & water and take your time as somebody said earlier "do it slow like a pro, do it quick like a d**k".

Have fun
