...and I probably will, After spending at least 7 months and most of my spare time fitting my Vire 7 in the place of the Vire 6, I thought I was nearly done, I even managed to get the dynastart to turn the engine over this morning. Then I noticed a rather oily smell and lo and behold, the bilge is full of gearbox oil! Some may remember I found the old oil had water in it, so I changed the oil assuming that the water was condensation...obviously not.
Now I have to disconnect the cooling system, fuel pipes, remove the carburetter, disconnect all the electric wires and the propshaft and take the damn engine out again, then I have to determine where the leak is and repair it. I am betting it will be the propshaft sealbut it has totally put a downer on my holiday.

Thanks...I needed to have a moan.

S--t happens! I know the feeling. Heartfelt commiserations.

Perhaps a pint or two....

I had this problem on a vire 7 the previous owner had put a new oil seal between water pump and gearbox the wrong way round so water under pressure was forced into the gbox leading to an oily froth from the breather. I managed to put a new seal in with the engine in place but at one stage a small mirror was required.
Good luck.
Spare and information used to be available from Fairways marine of Maldon Essex

Interesting info...I may pop down to maldon tomorrow to get some spares then. On a scale of 1 to 100, how diffucult was the job with the engine in situ as opposed to ripping the engine out?

The engine was fitted into a Virgo Voyager, there was reasonable access as the cockpit floor was removeable and I did the work whilst she was ashore. You will need proper circlip pliers. I replaced the seal in an afternoon but I did need a mirror at one point and I had already removed the carb, exhaust and disconnected the gear box. about 60/100.
I Think Fairways must have moved I googled them and got this -
