I can\'t do it anymore

like a few others on here, I used to poke about the hills - even led a severe once. But the knees and hips have steadily got worse - crucial point was coming down from Gable in agony. Anyway, still got the rack plus rope and quite a few books. Circs mean that I've got to thin out possessions and so now is time for most of rest of books to go; climbing guides went a few years ago. A poignant moment, reflecting that there's stuff I won't do again and also stuff i wanted to do but won't. Anyway, one of them posters that other people have sez, "Take kindly the counsel of the years". I prefer - If I'm looking for sympathy, I'll find it in the dictionary between S*@t and syphilis.

Keep going ... I started taking glucasamine about 3 years ago and its helped enormously. Daughter also bought me treking poles for Xmas... met Chris Bonnington a few months ago and he's still bumbling up the odd extreme at the age of 72.

Yup, I've been doin the glucosamine as well and had poles for a while. But everything below the waist is Kaput. I used to look at the Morris Marinas parked under Milestone Buttress with a couple + flask inside and think - that just isn't a substitute at all. I might be Ok with wandering up a bit and having a kip - maybe after first pitch of a mod. Scrambles are OK, allowing for my natural clumsiness; it's getting to them and worse is getting down.

Yup. I used to be able to walk all day. Hills were not an issue. But back problems mean uphills are murder and Mrs Lakesailor has knee problems which preclude downhills so we are averagely buggered.
We now do level stuff and sit in boats. That's the nice thing about the Lakes,. It's lovely wherever you see it from.
I did do a photographic job for the YHA last year which involved gorge-scambling. I told them I wasn't going to get involved in climbing, but did and enjoyed it. Which suprised me.
