Got a bit too hot trying a bit too hard. Nothing drastic, I've got the block rebored and a new set of pistons. Gotta have it all back together and running by the weekend.

Thats number 1 piston in my boat engine. It decided to melt. Hot spot caused it. Cooling waterways in the head got a bit congested. Fun and games these boats aren't they!

Engines out, I dropped the block off to my mates engineering shop this morn. Pick it up tomorrow pm and start rebuilding it in the kitchen after dinner. Got to have a clean enviroment to build them.
Should have it back in and running by friday afternoon. Then its off over the weekend to get the running in started.

Strewth, I can only admire you. It would take me 6 solid weekends just figuring out how to remove it, then hiring hoists, tools.

Just to add some information re the twin inboard ski boat, to get the skier up quickly they pump compressed air under the outdrives to create lift to the rear and give the props air so that they can get the revs up for the hole shot.

mmm, nice Wade blowers stuck atop there. Bet they give a nice whine.
On another note, its actually easier to get parts for those than it is a volvo 4 pot. Ordered new pistons on monday afternoon. They'll be with me today after lunch but before 5pm. I could order pistons for one of those this morning and have them by this afternoon.

Like the set up, staggering the engines. The belt guards on the front are needed. If one of those go at high RPM they cause a lot of damage to anything around them. Been there and experienced it, once is enough tanks very much.

What about this one single engine with twin outdrives pulled Marti Wells USA to the world title.

Regulations state you must have a second means of propulsion hence the paddle, not that you will get very far

I maybe wrong, but that looks to be turbo'd and blown. I which case...........I want one! The roll induced by the torque must be hell'ish to overcome. Probably the reason for two outdrives. The cackle from the exhausts would get on a Raggies nerves though, at least they could hear you coming!

You are correct, no expense spared, even had spare engines sitting in the trailer just in case, the 2 large black pipes on the top of the gearboxes suck in air to the props to assist the pull up and increase the revs.

I think it's running Nitrous as well!
I suspect the reason they run twin legs is that they must be on the torque handling limit of one, its gotta be around 1000-1200BHP, possibly more if they don't need to run many miles.
Dereck do they do short sprints or is it longer runs, also does the skier end up with 6ft long arms?

Nitrous is banded, most run AVGAS, local pumped fuel is only 91 octane you cant buy any higher, our outboard has to run on a least 98, we borrowed some AVGAS and mixed both for training runs, race days race fuel was delivered 110 octane and AVGAS, we ran the 110 with a marked improvement.

The men's race is 1 hour plus a lap some F1 boats were hitting 100mph Plus, F2 with single outboards 75/80mph, 4 races in total, 2 rough offshore courses and 2 semi inshore courses.

Ladies and juniors 45 mins plus a lap, both use F1 boats and can hit the 100mph

All skiers now race wrapped that means you have 2 handles held together behind your lower back with one hand, the other hand is out front to steady your self and pull in slack on tight corners.

BHP is closely guarded, our British F1 is 1000bhp plus (supercharged)

Main race had 14 F1 boats all monster inboards and 8 F2 all outboards.
