Almost exactly three months to the day after going in to hospital in early December for "three days to a week", I am now out and back home. Complications in the first operation lead to a further two operations and a longish stay in intensive care following sepsis and renal failure. I am now about 30% lighter than when I went in and can only walk about 50m without getting done in!

I am getting stronger by the day, but I think it will be some time until we get Witchfinder out in our usual two-handed configuration - 19kg of anchor and 25m of 10mm chain seem a bit daunting at the moment!

The admiral thinks we should use this summer to fettle up the boat but my view is that simply not sailing will be bad enough without having to do jobs on the dammed thing as well so we may haul it out and let the yard do some stuff over the summer.

So you may see more of me on these forums now, looking for trouble...

Dear oh dear sorry you have had such a tough time and hope all will mend in due - glad to hear that you are back with us.

My daughter went in for a few days that turned into 3 months and so I know how weak you must feel. Hopefully some decent weather for gentle walks will be along shortly.

Do you need any forum help with Witchfinder?

I expect to make a full recovery, but it will take time. Thanks for mentioning help: my guess is that we are alright but I will keep you folks in mind. Certainly the advice and opportunity to discuss options the forum has provided have been useful in the past.

Good lord and I thought I had a rough time. Good to hear you are out and about - and all the best for the recovery. Im sure it will be a frustrating time but in a few months we will have much better weather and the world will feel like a different place than it does right now.

So sorry you've had such a tough time, but very pleased you are (slowly) on the mend.
My troubles are as nothing, cracked rib and then boat off the mooring and having a contra temps with railway arches, (as described elsewhere on this forum) as a result, I shall be lifting out when the others are lifting in, and have the prospect during the season of doing repairs or arranging for them to be done.
Ah well 'c'est la vie'! - thinking of you.

Blimey!!
Will you lot stop being dangerously ill?

Think we can rename this the Most Interesting Disease forum!!!:p

Still, glad to see you back shmoo. If you feel up to a bit of crewing in a gentle manner, you and the Admiral would be very welcome.

Get better soon....

What I have noticed is a worrying trend.....

First Shmoo buys himself a racy pushbike, and then ends up in hospital for 3 months....

Next CPD decides a lightweight road bike would be a grand idea... and ends up in hospital...

I'm just off down to find the receipt for my shiny new time trial machine to see what the retailers returns policy is.... I don't want to eat hospital food... :)

Seriously... glad to hear you are getting better Shmoo... look forward to seeing WFG out on the water this summer with a fully repaired skipper at the helm!
