I realy feel for you. It must have cost a fortune to get the boat to the UK, what with all the mechanical problems, hireing a skipper and mechanic for a trip that didnt realy get going. Lets hope it's all behind you.
Certainly it has cost more than expected, though the thing that really hurts is SWMBO and I were really looking forward to exploring Croatia /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
I have been fortunate, Colin and David were excellent Engineer and Skipper, and despite a heavy liking of the pub, came at a very reasonable price.
When I break it down the original road transport was going to be £3500, with fuel up to Koper at £1700 and then flights and fuel from Holland at probably £500 with lifts and taxed coming in at another £300, the trnaport bill was always budgeted to be about £6000 when buying her, so thextra £3000 for P&M could have been worse, she is still a good value boat and I know she will scrub up well.
It's just approaching the end of a VERY long summer, and I am looking forward to getting her on the hard at Hamble and having a good play and a tidy up. Be on the look out at a marina near you from mid October onwards - I will be back on the water with a vengance!
Sorry to hear that, jez. The only consolation is that when you're sitting on your nice clean sorted boat next summer, all the hassle will be a distant memory and hopefully you'll still be a few quid in
I would still reccomend it, but with the following conditions:
- Take a trusted UK engineer with you, don't rely on a local survey even if arranged through a UK company.
- Check, re-check and check again the paperwork required for that country
- Be realistic about transport costs, and don't try to be too ambitious in too short a time.
- Probably would also reccommend they speak to me also, reckon I have pretty much made every mistake going and also have got out of most! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
