I am looking at buying a 32ft Westerly Pentand in a marina near Alicanti spain, winter mooring cost approx 300 euro/month. are there any good cheaper sites around where boat can be left until spring ? I did hear there are some free mooring on Ibiza does anyone know about these?

last time we were in Almerimar (3 years ago) it was dirt cheap in the winter, around 5 euros a night.. but there are several here who live there full time and would have up to date prices.. the norm of the cruiser is to be conservative with length /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif to get the lower rate.. these guys are good, they like you to tie up at the fuel berth / office tower, if you look carefully, they have a calibrated scale on the rails, vewwy clever...
with yours, I would imagine cheapo.

It is a super place, too many liveaboards for my liking lol, I like quiet, but its big and in several basins. so always possible to find a quiet spot. good radio net on vhf and they used to have weekend junk sales for all things boaty which is good.
Dont think you could go wrong really.

We are wintering in Almerimar(44ft) and have found it the best value around. Was there last week and there appeared to be be a number of smaller berths free at the moment. The marina office speak very good english and they will give you an indication if there is space. From my own experience and that of two friends also in the marina they will not let you prebook or prepay. They seems to want to see the boat before they let you in!!

Nearer Alicante there is a new marina in Torrevieja which was told were doing winter deals but when I looked thought it was still pricey compared to Almerimar but did not investigate further.

Again Almerimar.
We have our Bav 37 there - six months (Oct-Apr) cost us a little over £800 (1100+ Euros).
Fumi in the control office is a most helpful fellow. We also found we had to 'be there' to get the berth - no pre-booking unless they know you from last year.

I spoke to them on phone and they said 10M x 3M yacht annual 2,600 euro prepaid. Dec to end April (150 days) would be 855 euro, both without elec/water which would be 2.42 euro/day extra.
If all goes well with purchase I hope weather will be good early Dec for 200 mile dash.
thanks to all John

So there you are.

The electricity/water is only chargeable when you are on the boat. You get an electricity adaptor from the marina office when you arrive and hand it in on the day you leave so you only pay for water/electricity for the days you have the adaptor.

... clear as mud ... I had to read that twice to understand it myself.

Yes, Almerimar is good. You get what's on the tin. Good liveaboard community, good co-operative British-owned chandlery, technical services possible, few break-ins, safe, low swell (but some berths better than others). Excellent communications to airports and main roads. Biggest downside is lousy day sailing - there is nowhere to go worthwhile in a day. Anchor off the beach and have a barbecue, but most don't bother. Showers etc. not of the best. The harbour office is very co-operative and always discharge their responsibilities. There are always marina staff waiting to take your ropes when you come back - don't get that in the UK /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
