Well it feels like it almost has the stigma at times /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I seem to recall that a few of us are giving up smoking over here in the East ,so how about an update folks ?

Personally I have reduced from two packets (five in a pack) to one single cigar at the end of the day and Louise has completely stopped for the last week . So both on target to being non smokers by the spring

How are the others doing ?

Ready for loads of booze on Full Circle for one thing /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

15 days now, cold turkey. Still getting the cravings, but easier now to deal with. Will eventually have to quit my chewing gum addiction!!

Still not faced the 'getting pissed' hurdle..../forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Still got that one to get through too /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif methinks we'll be doing it together soon /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I will let you two into a little secret.
The cravings last for 3 pints, then slide away to nowt. By the time you have had 6 pints you dont feel like a fag at all. Its weird, cos when I had 6 pints a s a smoker, thats when I used to get through 20 from 7pm to closing time, sometimes more.
Maybe its just me, and I am weird.

We can try this as a controlled experiment by locking us all in the fag free bonded storeroom on Full Circle for an evening!

I remember that.....
maybe not 20 in that short time but close...

At the stage you two are at now i realised how bad my car, house, office and clothes smelt.....I put on a jacket worn in the pub the night before and threw it into the wash because it didnt smell very nice....the boat was even worse as the cabin would smell being a confined area.

Keep at it.......I'm saving hard to fulfil my side.

Doug

I have to confess that Neil and Louise are doing better than me , but although I look forward to my one cigar a day treat , I don't actually enjoy it as much as I used to
I still crave for it though , which is wierd
Thanks for the help from both of you though , it does make it easier not to hear the usual 'oh I did it all on my own and it was dead easy' type replies

Cue the first one ?

Dave, I would have obliged, but alas I never took up the filthy habit in the first place /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

So, under the circumstances, there's very little I can do /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Good luck in your effort all the same /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yes indeed, good luck in your efforts. Mine were boosted substantially by the rollocking I got from my GP when he picked up on the increased asthma inhaler usage /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif. I do miss it from time to time tho /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Keep at it folks.

I stopped smoking ciggies many years ago - but there was an incentive that I shouldn't discuss /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif but she was /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif. Discretion please chaps. I also gave up sugar in tea and coffee on the same day - don't know why but tea and coffee improved immeasurably.

I didn't smoke at all for about 5 years and then had a cigar at a formal dinner and it was heaven. I can now smoke a couple of Hamlet with a drink and then not smoke again for a month - I guess I'm lucky.

One huge benefit from giving up was not having to carry them round with you and worrying about running out. And girls seem not to like kissing an ashtray /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

It's funny that you mention sugar because I've noticed I don't like as much of it in my tea/coffee lately
Do you think my taste buds are waking up again ? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

She doesn't call me Super Stud for nothing /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Or was it Droopy /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Had a sudden flurry of PMs and it caught me off guard /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
There is room in my box for a little one now /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It doesn't seem like 14 years ago, but I remeber that weird feeling

I gave up smoking about 10 years ago. My sense of taste and smell is still improving!
I had to stop coffee for a while as it was a direct link.
Best thing I did was read Alan Carr "Teh only way to give up smoking" - very entertaining and spot on.
I remember feeling a bit ropey from 1-2 months I'm afraid - but remember if you feel bad it's not because you stopped smoking it's because you started in the first place. As Alan Carr says: it took a long time to learn to smoke, too, what with all the coughing and feeling sick in the beginning!
Good luck.
