...but in the Sailing Directions issued by Clyde Cruising Club, what means the abberevation 'EC-Thursday (or any other week day)' used along stores and facilities? Early closing, extremely cheap....or what?

Reminds me of a story (probably apocryphal) about old man Adlard Coles cruising in the West Country in the 60s. He arrived in the Helford River on a Wednesday afternoon and needing some paraffin for his lamps rowed ashore with an empty 1 gallon (4.5 litres for the younger readers) can to the little shop which used to be on the quay there. He found it closed, and while wondering what to do was spotted by a local yottie who informed the old man that it is EC on Wednesdays and that he should have read Adlard Coles' South Coast Pilot for that information. "Read Adlard Coles" said the old boy, "I am Adlard Coles".
