Read between the lines.

A dealer has a new, (been in water a couple of months) boat at say £65,000, boat is then reduced by 5%, he offers me part ex of £30,000 against mine. Leaving circa £31000 to change.

What do the resident experts on here reckon a good price (for me) to change would be.

Jez Banks reckons £28,000 , Kawasaki £9,253.

The boat is not the be all and end all, but it might do for a couple of years.

Who will start me off at Twenty grand?

I will take a wild guess that its the 258 at Shepherds ? If it is then the deal you have been offered is about right. I've part exed a couple of boats with them in the past and usually only manage to move them about 2k from there initial bid. The boat is a good spec with the right engine and colour options, they are not going to let it go for a song.

If you really like the boat then go for it, doing a part ex takes a lot of hassle out of the swap- the convenience has got to be worth 2k at least.

Thanks for that. (its not that boat by the way) but I am beginning to think it may be worth taking a hit on the part ex because fundamentally I cant be bothered (or havent the time) to start putting my salesmans hat on.

Depends on how much you want the boat. By the sound of it, not all that much so the deal has got to be a stonker. I would play real hardball and start at £20k and then move up in small steps. Once you get him down as far as he will go, then ask him to throw in a few goodies like ropes, fenders etc

£9,253 +(Anglesey V.A.T) @ 35% Cos that's what I charge.
Plus Carraige , cos it's an Island + Brokerage Fee + incidental expences + plus Dentists expences + £1000 In a "Brown Envelope" for to teach you how to steer it.
You'd still be in profit. ------Just!
Seriously, do as Deleted User said.
Bid then Screw! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have to say that i ve found it very hard to get much discount, so it comes down to how keen you are, really.Do you want the new boat, or you only want the new boat at a great price?Because the two arent the same at all.If you want the new boat, you know you can have it at 31k, so its a bonus if you can get it lower, knowing its something you are enthusiastic about. If you dont care that much, whats a good deal to you?20k?25k? Decide the top price beyond which you will walk away. And remember to walk away!!(Might well still be for sale in March anyway!!) By the time you can use it, its a year old, and you have 6 months of winter costs. Call that 10pct, but why pay for that, coz you re not getting any fun out of it.
