Why don't more fast motor boats use hydrofoil technology? In the world of sailing dinghies this is one of the techniques now used to go faster. Presumably once a boat is up on foils it needs less power to move it forwards, so surely it is ideal for motor cruisers? Would it also handle rough seas better?

There were some liesure hydrofoil motor cruisers built but not many, they are expensive complicated and have a deeper draft.

I worked for a passenger hydrofoil operator 200 passengers at a cruising speed of 36knots automatic ride control system operated to a force 7 quite a good ride really, very expensive to operate from a minatenance point of view, propellers lasted 450 running hours then had to be scrapped due to cavitation and a 3.2m draft.

Monohulls need more power but cheaper to build and operate.
