last summer, I had a problem with one gear controll on the FB helm,
liquid was passing the O-ring from one to the other side of the hydraulic cylinder, inside in that lever,
making the gear working only in one direction,
the liquid inside is engine coolant.
In summer I was able to clean that specific hydraulic cylinder etc..
and just for savety, swap it with the rarely used inside helm throttle levers, and holiday could go on...

I've got hold of 4 old but still working levers, as spare parts,
I would like to refurbish these before taking them to the boat and replace all the 28yold levers on the FB helm station (having been exposed to the elements and temp changes during 28 years)

so basically I just need to replace the o-rings
the o-rings in the lever that I've opened are a little oval (because of age I guess)
but it is simple to measure the dimensions,

looking for new o-rings online, I found out there are different types available,
NBR70, NBR90, EPDM, Silicon, Teflon, ...

they have to "glide" in that cylinder (similar to a hydraulic / oil cylinder) but the liquid is engine cooling liquid,
and the curent O-ring feels more plastic than rubber, and I would say medium stiff.

Can someone here advice what is the best type of O-ring for my application ?

For something water lubricated I would suggest teflon or possibly Viton. Wouldn't use nitrile (NBR70 or 90) for this application.
