My steering is fine at relatively slow speeds and when stationary but at over ten knots requires more welly to go to starboard than to port. I also get a low groaning noise as I move th wheel to starboard. Well topped up with the correct oil. Any thoughts?

your rudder post bearings are worn, have you greased them at ALL?

Hi, FWIW

When your sat in the marina with engine(s) running.
When you increase the revs and you apply helm does it have same effect ? - I 'think' it will be fine when stationery which would probably exclude a mechanical issue as the problem is one sided at speed ????

A Round Mallorca Regatta boat last month (F36 on shafts / rudders) had a very similar situation - helming difficult at speed. Perhaps like them you may have some rope / net derbis around the rudder or perhaps prop which is streaming back only when at speed to mainly one side of one or both rudders . This would then tend to hold the rudder straight ahead but when you apply helm it would cause resistance mainly on one side and the pump would complain about the excess load.

Hope this helps - time to break out the snorkel for a peep under perhaps.

Feedback welcomed !

As the boat has only done 100 hours and the Owners handbook does not refer to greasing rudder bearings, I am inclined to think that the prop fouling could be more likely. Another comment to me was regarding the boats prop walk, she has quite a big 4 bladed prop,as being possibly relevant?
