I am thinking of a new genoa, has anyone used them?

They have a loft in the Far East, would I be better just cutting out the middle man and going to one of the Hong Kong agencies?

How does it work when a small loft is a "distributor" for Hyde sails? Is this simply another layer of expense between me and the product, or is it worthwhile to speak to a sailmaker even if he has nowt to do with making the sail?

All observations welcome.

If the Hyde business/agency is located in the UK and near to you I would insist that they measure your sails for you, including any add-ons they do not include, like reefing/flattening clew cringles and pendants for slab reefing. Shouldn't be any nasty surprises if something isn't done correctly then.
I've heard that most of the Chinese sails are of good quality construction and materials that you would expect, even those without a recognisable Logo. Price of course is also rather better, even including the shipping to UK.
When I replce mine eventually the latter route will be for me.

Fantasstic service, I've had Hyde main and genoa in the past, they will always measure up, the loft in the far east is their own loft-not a third party setup.

I've had Hyde cruising sails for 11 years, they have only just lost their shape and could do with recutting but the material is still in very good shape.
Prior to that I had a North suit, they were rubbish in comparison.
I'll be looking at another suit from Hyde.

Got a furling genoa through the Cowes office. Came to measure up, sail delivered to the boat on time and fitted it. This is our second season of use and very pleased with the sail and the service.

Another thumbs up for Hyde Sails

I bought new genoa and main from Hyde 2 years ago here in Essex. The local rep did all the measurements on the boat and discussed options. I made use of the "winter" discount of 25% off first sail and 50% off second. After delivery from the Far East, he brought them to the boat and we worked together to fit them. I was very happy with the experience and remain happy with the sails.

I had hoped to give the business to a local sail loft of which there are several but felt that I simply was not important to them.

I also bought sails from them on that offer and was well satisfied (not that I'm expert).
Their discounts plummeted soon after when they got the Clipper order.
Now they can seem pretty expensive - certainly compared with Crusader/Kemp. Depends who you think are the fair comparisons.
