Hurth gearbox noises 7.5

So, I've posted before about gear oil and got confused, I have a hurth on a volvo D1 30 shaft drive snd questioned oil spec as the book said ATF and others here said engine oil. It made sense to use the same oil in both which is what I've been doing for 3 years . It's most likeley unconnected but this season the gearbox has been 'growling' now and and again. Works OK but growling. Nock it into nuatral and back in gear all OK. Should I leave it till it stops or ' investigate ' bearing in mind just started sailing this year again.

I can tell you that I had a gearbox that required ATF and when the gearbox became old it didn’t behave as it used to. It still worked but was not quite right.

I used a Lucas additive that remedied the gearbox until I sold the boat years later (making sure the new owner was aware of issues).

I watched a lot of YouTube videos to see if people thought it would work before using.

I know from motoring forums that I belong to that some people hate additives and some additives are snake oil but I have used Lucas and found it to work. See below:

They also sell a stop leak additive.

I had a large leak that would have required a lot of work or expense to fit a new seal or replace the part. The Lucas additive (can’t remember name) TOTALLY stopped the leak. That part never leaked again and I am talking of years of further use.

I was amazed and fully believe in the lucas additives.

I've resorted to using ATF in my Hurth gearbox having had a long conversation with oil supplier and it all made sense I also added 100ml of the Lucas transmission fix. See how we go today. Just going to change all the oils on my Hilux transmission, so will put some in there as well.

Didn't go far today , but plenty of forward and backwards. All sounds much better. No moaning from her .

I was told to use ATF in my Hurth 10. Also change it every 250 hours, it goes in red and comes out brown from clutch particles
