Two weeks ago I was slightly upset to see my shiny stainless steel flagstaff and new red ensign take a dip between my port quarter and the pontoon in Sant Carles Marina, ably assisted by an enthusiastic cousin of SWMBO as he loosed the stern line before departure. I felt helpless as it disappeared from view, contemplating a dive.
Then, having seen the Hurricane earlier this week with his scuba gear out (some say a pleasant site), I contrived a cunning plan, 31C and bright sunshine, tempt him and Mary over to my boat for a jug of sangria laced with fruit and white wine, the challenge to dive down to retrieve this most important emblem. The result:
I was happy to see Mike surface safe and well, but even happier when he triumphantly lifted his right hand clutching my flagstaff - how rewarding it is to retrieve something lost to the locker.
Now he not only holds the blue ribbon but also the red ensign, is there anything this man can not do?
Very big thank you Mike, much appreciated.
