I have just returned from St Peter Port where depsol, poster hereabouts, met up with us for lunch, gave usa lift in his new van to see the new sampson marina and a lift back from the shops collect cheapy booze... and then the trip of a lifetime in his boat around Herm and Breqcoue (sp?). Swirling white-water spring tides, evening sunshine, brilliant scenery between rocks almost feet away made it feel a part of Lord of the Rings movie, or better - cos it was in a powerboat. Swmbo said that this 1-hour trip alone made it worthwhile bringing the boat back from the med, and i agree. Thanks again, depsol, a trip i will never forget nor ever ever try to repeat in a boat driven by me, erk.

thundering up the solent

well, we have indeed been thuindering around the solent this weekend - cherbourg and plym and st peter p was suring the week - soeltwise we started with (ahem) saturday morning appointment on the telly watching the ships out of portsmuff, wanging up to the hamble, a ditvhcrawl with coliholic up and down the Hamble, lunch at the folly, anchoring outside yarmouth, nipping over to lymington in the dinghy for a bottle of milk and a pint, nosing into Newtown creek, chasing that dinghy-airyplane thing outside cowes, and of course having a row with our next door neighbour when the dishwasher blew up the shorepower, he called me a nouvaeu riche b*stard and i retorted that the probabl reason for the power blowing was that he'd got himself a cheap boat. I have now moved to N (for Nouveau Riche B'stard) where there are fewer power problems and conteplkating how to get 125 amps like they can suply in the french navy port of toulon, as opposed to the shitey britannia not ruling the waves very much port of portsmouth. Also, the water pressure is so shit that it's almost woreth a trip to cherbourg to wash the boat, but anyway.

Re: thundering up the solent

Hoipe you enjoyed the fireworks. We were in Lymington on Saturday night (and it appeared that half the boats in the solent were trying to be there as well!) crowded doent even come close to describing it.

I should have realised that you were in Yarmouth - after all several people commented that Yarmouth had filled up early - possibly due to the presence of a certain ex copper covered beastie? /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Glad you enjoyed it. Coming through the Gulliot at high tide on a big spring is a rare sight pity we didnt get video footage.

Next time I will take you around the other half of it.

Once again thanks for lunch, give us a shout if your stopping in on the way back to the Med.

Was that you tied alongside a big catamaran on the outside pontoons? If so we were on the other side of the same pontoon admiring some classy slow speed handling, not to mention wondering if James Bond's single seater helicopter would pop up out of the flap doors in the stern!

yep, that was us, and i remeber the sun legende and thinking about others (or you?) doing transatlantic on such craft. Small world eh? Or, as i am beginning to think - big site here...

Back in the solent on Sunday am, i did have a chase at that dinghy-plane thing outside Cowes but it looks a bit dodgy and noisy, even for a stinkie...

I think we must have seen Mr Soltron pick you up too, but I don't expect we are anything like as big a customer as you! Shame it would have been nice to say hello, an argument perhaps for buying one of those forum burgee thingies.

Yes so I see! We were only there 2 nights and 2 days of hectic SWMBO shopping broken by a meal on Thursday night at Saltwater! By the way has Saltwater changed hands? We had the same meals as we had last August yet it was 30% more expensive and not as good as we had several times before. We will probably be back late August again this year on the way back fron S Brittany, but this time will go back to using Da Nello's or The Absolute End.

Will chat to my old school mate Pierre at saltwater and find out why, I know they have been really busy.

Da Nellos is good and Nello is always around in his boat at this time of year 'Aqua Santa'.

Next time your over look out for the van with MMS (Mobile Marine Supplies) on the side and give me a shout. You dont have to buy Soltron to say hello!
