Hi!

I own a Hurley 700 (Hurley 22 SCM in reality) and I have some rudder play.
I suspect it must be the bearing. It is not much, probably 1 mm either side.
The rudder itself is ok, the tube is stainless steel, no water ingress and no rust.
There are two concerns:
- Is there any harm in some rudder play?
- Does anyone know how to fix this / has a technical drawing?

Thanks!

Sounds like the rudder bushes need replacing - I think drawings are available from the Hurley Association

They are: bushes are: 1" I/D x 1 1/2" O/D with a 3/16" lip

If you get stuck give me a shout and we can make you some

Hi Dinghy Man

The HOA is mostly on Facebook, something I don't have nor want.
I have a pdf (see attachment). This is the original drawing used for the SCM and 700 Hurley's.
The sizes in inches and mm seem to be just what you wrote.

These bushings:
Are they just nylon bushes, without ball bearing, one at the top and one at the bottom?

Thanks!

Thats the drawing I saw - they appear to be plain bushes, I wouldnt use nylon as there are way better plastics available these days

Just drop me a message if you want some making

They have a web presence if you're not interested in Farcebook.. Hurley Owners Association ...I would suggest an email to the technical contacts on that web page will get you all sorts of useful advice.. (y)
