TB made a mistake today and flew back to France.

So I went to SBS, just for the ride and a trip around the chandelry shops.

Ended up on the above boat. VERY impressed , never seen one before. A bit like a S/Hawk but rather tasty.

Given that the 2nd hand one at the show is for sale, does anybody know anything about them? Good or Bad?

I'd have thought it was a great MED boat but apparently only one there so far.

A bit like Gludy's choice I guess depreciation could be a beggar but at least this one is a year old..

They look good, there are a couple of new ones berthed at Merlin Boat yard in Southampton, app they owners are very happy with them.

Only thing is will it depreciate more than the SH? what are they £200k? same as a 2000 model SH48 mk2? My moeny would be on the 2nd hand superhawk holding its value better over a 2 - 4 year period. All depend what deal they could do on the show boat I suppose.

What engine options are they fitted with and how does the performance compare to the SH

Couple of pics on page 175 MBY.

The show boat was a 150 hrs 18 month (2 seasons) boat with gennie, heating , radar , 2 Yanmar 300 engines. Speed is similar toSuperhawk having a liitle more oomph ( 3 x 260 version)

It' s£175000 , you could just get a lowish spec 1999 S/hawk for that money.

36 and 43 Huntons are excellent boats, superb handling, excellent performance and unusual for a British boat, built properly. Resale value is high as they are recognised by enthusiasts as a sound purchase, new or seconhand.

You need to take a walk round the factory, a handful of skilled craftsmen turning peoples dreams into reality.

As for a Superhawk, lovely stylish boat, built by a company that has supposedly managed to find around 1,000 skilled employees in the poole area.

A friend of mine worked for them once, he used to be a bricklayer, following week he was a boatbuilder.

Resale: Hunton Gazelle 43

Totally agree that they definitely look very well made.

But my eye is hardly a professional one....just think the standard of fittings 9e.g. cleats) are better than stock boats.

Anyone know what specific issues may arise from keeping a boat such as this in the SOF given that there will be NO dealer back-up, or is it just a case of getting the odd bits and bobs from the UK? Any other specific issues????

dealer backup hahaha

I wioiuldn't worry about so-called "dealer backup". This is confusion with cars, again.

With cars, every single bit (apaprt frm theradio and light bulbs) is made for the manufacturer of the car, by companies with no interest in speaking with public. Nobosy has a clue who made what, and you need a delaer to get the parts.

By massive contrast, boats are incredibly low-volume, the only boat-yard made part being the main hull and low-tech fittings. Everything else is recognisable and openly made by others, whether its the engines, gearboxes, instruments, bogs, props, galley equipment. And the lowtech stuff is fixble by a grp specialist or someone with a sewing machine.

So don't worry about dealer backup.

Of course - there are some bits that will be easiest to source thru dealer as tghey know where to gettem. Yards in the south of france i spoke to reckoned that the yanks (searay) were quickest to send things, usually under a week, whereas brits always too over a week, nearer a month.

Re: dealer backup hahaha

Yes but that's because so much of the 'British' industry is actually South African isn't it.

It's a stupid thing but the arrogance I keep meeting from Sunseeker salespeole is pushing me away from them, butthen as you say I shouldn't worry about that as any part they play in my future ownership of the boat is purely coincidental.

I think it's time to just fork out and get on with it.

Re: dealer backup hahaha

Not really "south african". There's a south african who is major shareholder of renwick whcih in turn controls princess and fairline. The s african in question owns a crap-looking princess 25m, based in la napoule.

The sales experince need only deter you from buying new, not secondhand imho. Oodles of help from anyone and anywhere other than sunseeker.

I thort huntn gazelle more of a speedboat that s48, less room to get out of the back and so on?

Taking delivery of Hunton this week, looked at this and Sunseeker - to my eye the former clearly better made. Handling is superb and the show boat looked to have been cared for fanatically. Have spent some time at the factory and seen the care that goes into building them and the staff are incredibly helpful - I should certainly suggest a close look!

happy boating

THAT Princess based in La napoule. I think I can place it...

That's whatrather intrigued me about the Gazelle. As far as I can make out , it's exactly the same Cockpit layout with the exception of the front seating/lounger as the Superhawk 48. The swim platform is a little bit smaller as in inches and it's a similar beam. Layout downstairs is different with slightly less saloon space but otherwise just better quality...IMHO, that's why I'm hoping one of you experts reallly knows the boat.

Sounds like I should take TB to go and see the boat. I loved the one that was there I have a few minor problems but that's about it with the boat

I had a smaller Hunton until May this year. When I bought it the survey showed superb hull construction. It went like a dream. Even better at 40 Kt than 30. It would cut through just about anything without faltering & ran very flat at speed. When I had some queries about the boat (not new by any stretch of the imagination) Geoff Hunton came down himself to look over the boat & everyone at the firm gave generous help.

Thanks , interesting to know. I've booked TB and I in for a tour/sea trial . I'm still worried about depreciation on the boat and that's themain thing holding me back at this time ... but I was smitten !

She will love it but if I cann't allay her fears on depreciation then I will end up with my original option , and nooone has been able to allay those fears yet !!

Gazelle and associated sixties bangers

It's only within the past 10 years that the term "German engineering" has become a phrase indicating high quality. This is because all our Dads who would not go near "german engineering" have parked themselves up, away from the consumer-driven world in whose grasp we all find ourselves.

So, for the benefit of companies trying to flog us boats, and bearing in mind that motorboaties now rember the good and bad from the late fifties/sixties and early seventies, anything with the the follwing model names or part thereof will indubuitably suffer massive depreciation

BAD:
Avenger, Imp, Marina, Minx, VX4/90, Velox, Corsair, Viva, Caravelle, Zodiac, Consul, Cortina, Dolomite, Vietnam, Zebedeee, Dougal, Traveller, Gazelle, Victor, 1800, 1600, deluxe, Hector, Morris, Beverley, Andrews, Black-and White Minstrel, Austin, Westminster, Vanden-plas, Maxi, Home, Service, Evening, National, Tiger, Vanguard, Cathode-ray, Senior, Junior, Virgil, Super Snipe, Humber, Twin, Hillman, Riley, Wolseley, Reddifusion, Wilson, Heath, Barbara, Castle.

However, for the same reasons, the folowing names, suffixes and numbers are recommneded for superb sales figures:

GOOD: Targa, tii, type {anything}, {anything}type, DB, "99", Fab, Singleton, Mission, McQueen, Disc, Bora, Interceptor, Persuader, Hawkins, Bombshell, Digital, International Ballistic Missile, 2500, PI, GT, GXLR, GTS, Spyder, Continental, X, Intercontinental, transcontinental, transam, Mark-{anynumber}, Bay, Pigs, Apollo, Topless, Houston, Che Guevara, Kennedy, White Heat, Convertible, XJ, 1966.

Obsessive memories

\dear Readers

It is eveident that we can now 'visualize' the psychological profile of dearTCM from this post.

Anti-British, father-fearing, right-wing international terrorist who believes that Kennedy was a wimp and should have taken out Cuba and made a pre-emptive strike on Indo-China just in case. eerrrggghhhh...................name isn't pseudonym for George Dubya is it?

P.S. Gazelles are fleet of foot , genteel efficient...hmm ( yes , bit wimpish.) Anyway IF I bought it and took it to France I can call it what I like so it's now officially ' The Hunton , - I run down Leopards for Breakfast - SuperFalcon'...

Re: SuperFalcon!

Now THAT isa much better name. I would have bought one myself. Whereas Gazelles, see, bring back memories of Singer Gazelle =sh!t weedy car slightly changed from Hillman Minx -sh!t car and/or Gazelles=boring disney wildlife programmes which i thought would be Cartoon Time.

Also, Hunton sounds like somewhere near a power station, or maybe Hunstanton= sh!t pre-foreign holidays place with thermos flasks where it rains.

So suggest you ditch the Hunton bit and swap for summink else ... what?
