Does anyone know if the Plastimo furling gear for the above yacht is the 406 or the 608 model.

Also how reliable is the Plastimo product and potential life expectancy ?

Many thanks in anticipation

Its a 608.

Life expectancy depends on how you treat the furling drum.

I have the same system on a Horizon 272 and it is still going strong after 12 years. However, beware. The ball bearing races are mild steel and if any water gets into the drum say over the winter if the mast is dropped at lay-up, the ball races will rust.

I now take the drum apart (approx 15min job) each winter when the mast is down and store the ball races etc out of the weather. I speak from bitter experience having to replace them twice in two seasons at £70 a time!!!

Hope this helps.

hihi i have a 245 too 2002 model......its a 406 on mine......plastic ball bearings....

no probs with it so far....touch wood...but i put a stantion eye on the pulpit on the port side and now when furling have no probs with the rope which has in the past managed to trap itself round the drum.

definately wrap the halyard round the sail 3 times min. though and keep both ropes tight and cleated off if you are going to leave them on throughout the winter....very prone to unfurling....

brian...

Apologies
