Morning all,at present I use a Yamaha Malta on mine but have been offered a Yamaha 4hp 4stroke at a very good price. Couple of problems/queries though. My Malta is l/s whereas the 4t is s/shaft. Without measuring can anyone guess if it would work? Other problem is with a missing serial number. The remains can be seen but it looks like someone has scraped most of it off. Does this sound iffy? The seller seems an honest type but how do you check these things out?

.....and probably too short. I know my Hunter 19 definitely needed a long shaft otherwise the prop would be in the air more than it was in the drink.

Also unnecessary. My old Hunter 19 would reach hull speed at three-quarter throttle with a Mercury 2.5 (two stroke). Also what about the extra weight?

Thanks all, have decided to stick with the Malta, though it has an intermittent fault in that it cuts out if you try to rev too fast from tickover.
