Hi, can any one tell me how i would find out if my hunter is the 19 or the europa? Its sail number 979E.

Thanks

Marc

Do you know the build date?

Hunter 19s built from Sep 72 - Feb 74, Europas built Apr 74 - Nov 82

Hope this helps.

Hi, can any one tell me how i would find out if my hunter is the 19 or the europa? Its sail number 979E.

As far as I am aware, the two main differences are
  • The Hunter Europa is slightly higher between rubbing strip and rail (same hull moulding, different deck mouldings)
  • The Hunter 19 has windows with rounded ends whereas the Hunter Europa has windows with pointed ends

I think you will find the 'E' on the sail sets it out as an Europa. The '19' sail doesn't have the 'e'.

Great fun to sail.

Hi, had a Europa which I sold last summer, great boat. Mine also had an E in the number. The cockpit is self draining and is all GPR whereas the 19s I've seen have wooden sits in the cockpit and it doesn't self drain. The traveller is at the front of the cockpit in the Europa, whereas it's in the middle of the cockpit on the 19.

What sort of keels did they have? I'm sure Willing Griffin was fin, and there was one (not sure if 19 or Europa) with triple keels on the hard at Bradwell last year. Was centreboard & bilge an option as well?

Thanks everyone, It has a fin keel, and the traveller is at the front of the cockpit, I thought the E on the sail may stand for europa but wasn't sure.

Looking forward to starting work to get her ready for the season.

Have fun! If there was an Oliver Lee fan club I would be a member - I have your boats little sister, a Hunter 490.

I have an Anderson 22 which is another Oliver Lee design. Again the Very Willing Griffin book has quite a bit on Oliver Lee and his yard/design shop at Burnham. As it's yet to be mentioned, there is a Hunter 19 Yahoo Group which has quite a few posts.
