Started planning my summer cruise - down from Stainforth to Keadby on the Trent, then down the Humber to Hull (did this last year) We are also thinking about going across to Grimsby. Has anyone done that and got any comments to pass on about their experinces. Is there anything else that is a 'must see' or 'must do' on the Humber? Has anyone got any thoughts about anchoring over-night behind Spurn point....

Any comments or experiences would be appreicated to help us in our planning.

Thanks

IanC.

I have been into Grimsby a couple of times. I think there are two clubs, one at the end of the main commercial dock and one in the fish dock which is the one I have been to. Reasonable overnight fees, showers etc. and they make you very welcome. I used their hoist to put my mast down. Very cheap, but good, beer in the clubhouse. I seem to remember that it wqas not possible for me to exit Hull and make Gromsby on the same tide. I think the lock keeper can lock you in at any state of tide, but does not offer that service. I have achored off the beach, just to seaward of the lock, whilst waiting. It is sandy and was calm on that day.
A chap came into the clubhouse who was going single-handed around the UK on a <25ft boat and he had anchore off Spurn the previous night. OK if wind is northerly, but no good if southerly.
I am sure you will have a good time there. I also went into South Ferriby where there is a good pub and it is OK. Paul

Ring the lock keeper who will give you the information. Also do a google search on Grimsby Yatch Clubs for more info.Paul
