Hull valve spanner

Need to replace a 1,5 inch hull valve through hull fitting. Tried all my adustables, cannot get into the space, searched online for a 1 1/2 bsf 1 3/8 whit claw spanner or box spanner, cannot fnd one. Can anyone help please about where can obtain a short/stubby spanner thet will fit in a confined space.

If you are replacing the through hull as well as the seacock then you could do what the boat yard does. A drill and a hole cutter that just fits up the outlet from the outside. Whizz whizz straight through the flange and it all comes away.

Tap spenners do not do 1.5 inch bsp. Yes I can get it out by cutting through the inside nut. But how do I tighten up the repalacement through hull nut. 1.5 inch BSP is 2.22 inches, 56.39 mm across flats . I am surprised that no-one has had this problem before.

Whenever a tool doesn’t fit you have to make one out of several different tools...find bits of tools that do fit...cut the good bits off and weld them together

Waterpump pliers/plumbers grips will fit in most situations; no need to torque the thing up that much as the sealant will hold it in. Box spanners are available in most sizes for really awkward installations.

Removing the old fitting I use what ever I can as I'm not worried about damaging it. Fitting the new one I normally do hand tight and then 'pinch' up with a large pair of water pump pliers. I also have an adjustable type spanner that opens up to around 2" but the jaws only have a depth of around 1.5" !
Once the sealant has had 24 hours drying I haven't had a problem so far.
New plastic fittings don't like being overtightened which also helps.

Or buy a TrueDesign replacement fitting. Comes with a nifty compact spanner.

Admittedly, if space is tight, the fitting itself may not fit…!

+1 for destructive removal of the old one. Any dried Sika (etc.) on the threads may mean you need more torque than a heath robinson tool would allow anyway.

Below is my home made solution. A toolmakers clamp with a 1/2inch square hole used in combination with a long 1/2" extension and a 1/2" ratchet driver:-

I had what sounds like a similar problem with the through hull on my heads outlet. I used a Dremmel with a cutting head and cut through the nut and spread it before knocking the through hull out. Assuming you’re replacing the whole fitting.

Gave up trying to buy anything that would fit, they just do not make tap spanners/crowfoot spanners/box spanners that big anymore, and no room to turn a normal spanner. Tried a chain spanner in my workshop at home, just slipped off, the gripable height of the nut is very small.
I cut the old nut off, using a multi-tool.
To tighten the nut on the new fitting, I tried many of the suggestions, but in the end admitted defeat and went cap in hand to marina workshop.
They lent me a tool made by them, cut from a piece of plate with a square bar welded to it. All it cost me was a lecture, mainly in French, and beyond my comprehension, on what I think was the stupidity of the British Standard Pipe sizes.

Easy enough to fabricate a flat or crows foot spanner from a bit of steel plate. 5mm/6mm should be thick enough. Six-sided box spanner also possible with a bit of welding.
