hull staining

I have the age old problem of waterline and bow staining on the white hull of my Moody 31 ( Mk2 1988 ). Polishing out is not possible but I have tried Starbright (oxalic acid) hull cleaner which works a treat for a few weeks but the brown stain seems to return, with increasing regularity. The acid appears to 'bleach' the stain away but I am not sure if it is causing any damage to the gel coat - perhaps resulting in it being more susceptible to further staining ? I tried giving it a good polish at start of season to build up a resistant surface but it did not seem to do much good.
Has anyone found the miracle cure for this common problem or should I just pursue regular applications of the Starbright hull cleaner ?
I thought I might contact 'Moody' in Portsmouth for some advice from the manufacturer. Any comments out there ?

I had a similar problem was told that the staining results from the hull cleaner used being too strong, solution was to clean and then apply three coats of teflon finish, seems to have done the trick. happy polishing.

I had a boat polished whilst it was in a yard a few years ago. Having cleaned it off, the yard applied "Crystal Glo". I was pleasantly surprised that it stayed that way and kept it's white shine till I sold it. I know Cruisermart now have it.

Good luck.

p.s.
Why is it that the other man's grass is always greener and his boat always whiter??

hi. I had this for ages, and then chose black antifoul, up to about 4cm above waterline - against the advice of the dealer who said it would look awful.

In fact what happens is that the bottom of the boat simply "disappears" from attention when looked at from the quayside. There'll always be gunge collecting around the waterline, making light, red or blue antifoul look crummy after a few months. Few people ever choose black because boat show boats are never ever black antifouled.

Staining can only persist if the surface is non-waxed ....

Try polishing the surface after cleaning ....

I have a hull that sits and gets dirty while away ----- months on end, I clean it with a good scrub, T-Cut and then polish with a good wax .... hard work, but when I return I can clean it all off with a good hard hose spray and brush. Good for 2 years or more.
