Hello Everyone, Just a little advice regarding Hull Marina, BWML (bullsh*ters Mumberlers Wafflers and Liers) is owned by BW and not as said by the Director Derek Newton a stand alone company. Therefore all their systems are directed at profit making and not customer care, they will if they see fit oust anyone who asks too many questions and they will bully all in their way.

Another neat trick is to hold secret files on their customers (who never get to see them) so don't fill out a customer comment card as they will use this against you in the future as there held in your file. They will blatantly lie if needs be and at all costs they will protect their staff ( most of which belong to one family ) well before thinking of the customer.

If you need any more advice I will return in a couple of days to view any reponses.

thanks for the post. Very worrying, what has gone on for you? we had planned to look at wintering there next year, we are full time livaboard cruisers. Is there a problem in general or just something for you?
please PM me if you prefer

I believe the marina is owned by Hull council and the marina actually rent it from them. Could be a way to go if you had a problem.
We spent last winter there and never had a problem. Thought it was a very friendly live aboard community.

I'm presently living aboard in Hull Marina, I have found it a very pleasant well run place to be, facilities are great and you are 5 minutes leisurely walk from the city centre. Staff I have dealt with have always been very helpful and a pleasure to deal with, costs are considerably less than my previous berths on the Clyde. All the literature, signage etc from and around the office makes it pretty clear that BWML is a part of BW, and that staff at Hull also manage/cover the BW Marina at Ripon and another on the inland network.

Personally I don't recognise much of the original post and in answer to your question I certainly do not see any problem in general and with the lock being closed for a couple of months for maintenance 'ousting' anyone would be a bit difficult at present!

You only visit once, way too far up the river tobe of any interest to anyone wishing to sail. It is cheap though.
Pontoon fingers too small, way too small and hoops instead of cleats, and so tight to get into a berth. Not the cleanest of marinas but ok, the chandlery is excellent. Tide too limited for access. no waiting pontoon on the river, although it does have one just outside the ck gate but it dries out and is of no use at all.

You're kinda stuck in there, but you like me wouldn't be out for the winter.
If you're going that far down, wouldn't you stop at the bottom, say Grimsby easier access and shorter sail out.
Hope Xmas and New Year went well in Troon for you both.

Have you been in Grimsby?
Good marina but set in a landscape of a nucular explosion and everything is miles away.
For liveaboards wintering I can recomend Hull. Cheap shops, good people, excellent and friendly sailing club, good facilities, and 2 minutes walk to the city centre.

Looking again at the original post in my opinion they are totally wrong.
The staff could not have been more helpful. The facilities are very clean and good, (launderette on site, showers). Waste disposal for everything including oil or chemical toilets.. The also have hard standing and two large haulout cranes.
The staff looked at various ways to work out the cheapest mooring option for us whilst there. They were efficient, friendly and would find the answer to any questions we had
Security is 24 hours, electronic key access on and off the marina. No keypad so you have to have a key which needs electronically renewing and stops people passing on a key pad code.
When we left they gave us a card entitling us to 50% marina disount for a year at numerous marinas and we used it to save us a fortune.
The chandalry was fantastic (Kildale) and found parts for us I could not find anywhere else (winch parts from Italy). They were cheap and even gave me lessons in splicing for free, lent me tools and gave me various free lessons on various mechanical bits. I cannot recomend them highly enough.

Yes.
Grimsby is a bit rough looking, but better winter sailing, more tide time in and out.
cheap too, and if your heading anywhere, save a couple of hours on Hull.

Sorry cant agree. Hull marina was really good to us in the 4 months we were there. Not sure what you are refering to on the file business but maybe an isolated incident. In the time we were in Hull there was one incident between a boat owner and the marina but it was more to do with the boat owners alcohol tendencies than anything else. All marinas will be faced with problems from time to time but one incident does not make them a bad marina. As far as my experience goes its a great marina - the livaboards are a wonderful community too.

hull marina

hi guys
Great replies on here & pm's, eased our minds no end. We did have doubts re the op.
We have been in Grimsby, yes marina ok freindly people BUT yup wow very rundown & isolated. NO GOOD for living on over winter! not a good suggestion.
When set in for the winter we are not botherd about going out sailing, we use that time to see the area, meet local people, etc etc etc been doing this for the past 9 years. So not botherd Hull is a 'long way up the river'. Hull sounds good to us, we like the community aspect & access to town etc. also a couple of pipe bands not too far away i hope join whilst there.
We don't have definate plans, just SEA which direction we want to go & where might be nice to stay. Thanks again guys n gals, have a safe year.

Seems the OP is into music so you may have something in common. If still in Hull by then :D

I'm sure we all await the return of the OP to find out what the gripe is all about.

Grimsby is in an industrial wasteland. Hull has good local pubs with good cheap food and shopping centre a stones throw away. Don't recognise the secret files bit. But rumour is far more powerful than written files.

Hull Marina part two.

Having viewed all the posts so far I have come to the conclusion that some speak from a lack of experience and knowledge. Make of this what you will, how good can the Marina be if it allows a member of staff to set up a customer and then the management of said Marina fit that customer up using lies and false testimony.

As for the card to save you money, any Trans-Europe Marina will give you the same card. As for the facilities they are going down hill faster than Eddy The Eagle, they are not clean, they are starting to fall apart and the showers since April 2010 when they opened are still flooding one compartment into the next.

BWML promised a deep steam clean, but gave two yard brushes to some staff and they scrubbed the floor (not exactly a deep clean!!!!! ).

Make up your own minds, you don't have to believe me but if you decide to stay there and look out for the obvious signs you will see.

It is simple, if you ask the wrong questions then you become a target. I was set up then fit up by BWML with no evidence whatsoever and if anyone wishes to side with them then that is their right I'm only saying what happened to me and my wife.

Thanks for the tip angelgabe; although I probably won't take heed of your advice being that I have a very good idea of the reasons you were excluded from "said marina".....

Constant drunken aggressiveness and multiple dealings with local police spring to mind? From what ive heard the marina is a far happier place without trouble causers like you my only suprise is that it took so long for hull marina to give you the boot

Like a lot of people on here I do speak from experience and knowledge as we were there when you were.
Personally I would shut up now, tug on my forlock, appologise and say no more.
