What do you expect your Hull ID number to give you ?

Would you expect to relate to when the boat is built ?

or

When boat is launched / delivered to you ex yard ?

Why I ask - there are builders that mould - fit out, stock-pile and then stamp ID number when it is ordered by dealer ...... this can be substantial period after its building ...... my thought is this is false Id and Mis-representation of build.

So how many know of this practice, how many agree that is is fair, how many didn't know about it, how many investigated a hull number to check build data ?????

I dont know what laws there are to enforce it or if some builders cheat, but the HIN should give you the hull moulding date.

Sorry if telling you how to suck eggs, but the format is like this: GB AVN 12345 J304

GB is made in GB

AVN is manufacturer code, of which there's an agreed list. AVN is Avon boats

The 12345 is the manufacturer's own serial number

J3 means hull moulded October (10th letter, 10th month) 2003. 04 is 2004 model year. Our boat is a J3 04 and was delivered March 2004 which is the kind of gap you'd expect I guess

The previous poster is totally correct but unless your hull is moulded under the control of LLoyds, DNV, or similar with an appropriate hull moulding note you are indeed relying on the integrity of the builder so you are also unfortunately correct
